My cat is 5 he has never even scratched me before viscously attacked me as I went to feed him I ended up needing 9 staples in my head. I love him so much but I'm terrified to even be in the same room as him. I've taken him to the vets nothing is wrong he is a indoor cat and I stupidly didn't get him done as he was such a good boy. He is booked in for next week. I really want to keep him but how can I not be so scared of him even just seeing him sends me into a panic my partner has been looking after him and I've kept him separate from me since and has been about a week now.

Let him out op.

@BarneyRonson @lovelydayIhave I would think the priority is the neutering rather than letting him out! Then at least a few weeks indoors to let the hormones settle properly.

IF, after that, he repeats what he did (for the first time in 5 years of living there as an indoor cat), THEN maybe there may be an argument for having him rehomed (as OP lives somewhere unsuitable to let a cat out)

I’m amazed you were able to keep an unneutered tom cat indoors and he didn’t spray everywhere TBH. Did he spray? If he didn’t then that’s quite odd in itself.

Do you mind if I ask why you asked this? My female cat has been more aggressive/hunt-y with me since I’ve been pregnant. She’s neutered and was never like that before! Is this a known cause for out-of-character behaviour?

It’s not super common but I think they just notice the change in you, perhaps we smell different to them. For what it’s worth, the cat I had who behaved like this never showed any aggression at all towards children, I think it can just unsettle them like any change.

Hope your boy’s surgery went well @Elfontheshelfs

Thankyou he is recovering well. Will update the thread again in a few weeks.

@Elfontheshelfs how are things now? Did the surgery work at calming him?

He attacked me again a week later. The RSPCA took him and he has been adopted. I also have children so couldn't chance him attacking them like he did me. Not sure if it was Territory thing as both attacks happened in the kitchen. Although I was quite scared of him still so he might of felt that. The second attack just required butterfly stitches As I managed to get out the door quicker. I think it was the best decision for him and a behaviourist worked with him and he is now in a adult only home. I cried for weeks but he clearly wasn't happy and alot of things probably played a part in that.
