Fasting bloods, how long to fast for?

My old girl is booked in at 9:45 tomorrow morning for fasting bloods but the vet forgot to tell me how long to fast her for, and I forgot to ask 🙈 Google says anywhere between 6 and 12 hours so I’ve got time to fast her for 12 hours if needed, but if it doesn’t need to be 12 hours I’d rather not starve the poor love for that long. Does anybody know how long I should fast her for please? She’s old, skinny and arthritic so they’re checking thyroid, diabetes, kidneys, liver so they can start her on some meds for the arthritis.

TIA 🐈‍⬛

I had similar timings for a fasting test for Tobias (digestive system ultrasound). Harder for me because I couldn't really starve Girlcat because he had to fast, but I shut him in their bedroom when I went to bed about 10:30, while she had the rest of the house.

Of course he had to have a tiny bit of food, as that's the only way to get the Gabapentin in him so he's crateable!

Thank you! All three have had their dinner now, I’ll put old lady in the car and then feed the other two before we leave as they might resort to cannibalism if I don’t, then she can have her breakfast in peace when we get back (and a nice bit of chicken or fish as a treat because she’s always such a good girl for the vet!)

Hoping bloods are all unremarkable, we saw a different vet for her jabs/health check on Friday who was a bit concerned about how skinny she is, but she’s always been very slender so hoping she’s just a bit of a stiff old girl now. She’s also fairly recently had a lion cut to deal with some nasty mats so she probably looks worse than she is!

Sounds like your problems are slightly less than mine are, as both of mine are "grazers" who don't bolt all their food down in one go but keep going back for a nibble. I can go to bed with half their wet supper left, which will be gone by morning, and they need dry down most of the time.

Good luck with the blood tests!
