Cat food for overweight cat

The vet recommended me a cat food that would fill the cat up without making her fatter

I forgot what she said (menopause!!)

currently she has measured Pro Plan Delicate Digestion Dry Adult Cat Food Turkey and about 40g of tuna a day

But one of my neighbours feeds her - we dont know which one and we cant get them to stop

so is there a lowcal bulky food she can have (the cat not the neighbour!)

There's a James Wellbeloved dry cat food called 'appetite control' and we used it for our food-driven fatty. It really helped a lot.

In the meantime, maybe put a note through the neighbour's door telling them that the cat has a worsening medical condition and has to have specialist food you get from the vet. Therefore please do not feed the cat anything at all because it will make him ill.

No idea which neighbour sadly and she won't wear a collar

I'll have a look thanks

Call or email the vet and ask?

Lovegame · 07/04/2025 18:18

Royal canin do one. My fattie was on it for a while.

whatsinanameeh · 07/04/2025 18:21

My greedy cat was told to go on Royal canine satiatey food by the vet and to feed him at his ideal weight dose, which was a pitiful amount for a very long time

The neighbours have been told not to feed him and to watch their own cats bowls, That probably made the most difference. TBH.

faerietales · 07/04/2025 18:24

One of mine went on a diet last year and all we did was reduce his food. He lost 4kg.

KatyMac · 07/04/2025 18:56

Yes she gets a pitiful amount of her current food

We shoud stop the tuna but she is so sad

its the satiaty one - I'll get that

Hi Op do you have a neighbourhood group Facebook page at all? It could be worth joining up just to post a photo of your cat and explain why he shouldn’t be fed

kidditsonyou · 07/04/2025 19:18

I would go round and talk to all the neighbours she could be going to, no point changing your food if she’s just going to get more there.

KatyMac · 07/04/2025 19:26

Ive put it on Next door

We are terraced houses and she roams pretty far, my immediate neighbours know but there are so many

Not everyone will be on next door.

FrostyMorn · 07/04/2025 20:12

My little fattie (aka megamog) has lost a few pounds on purina light, which I measure out so I don't overfeed her by accident.

TroysMammy · 07/04/2025 21:48

The chubster is on Hills Perfect Weight but my partner keeps on giving him titbits like little bits of fresh chicken and tuna and unless we are having vegetarian or curry ( but the cat has snaffled butter chicken sauce in the past) he gives him bits of meat or fish off his plate. It infuriates me because I'm the one who pays the insurance and buys the diet food which is more expensive than the normal one.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/04/2025 00:30

Our previous cat got to be a little chonk during lockdown with us being home all day - I was so embarrassed when the vet suggested we bring her to cat weight watchers! We rigorously measured food, and stopped all shop bought treats. I would poach a chicken breast every few days and she got a bit of that instead of Dreamies. She was on a Royal Canin food the vet recommended.

MercyChant66 · 09/04/2025 19:08

Royal Canin Appetite Control is what our vet recommended. It was working slowly but steadily until the chubby one found his own food supply at the neighbours. Do Not Feed collars always seem to disappear as if he knows what he's wearing...

Zinner · 12/04/2025 13:54

Our chunky boy has Meowing Heads Fat Cat Slim. He still manages to maintain his fine physique but at least is not gaining now…

KatyMac · 23/04/2025 11:45

Well she loves the satiety one and its now half & half with her old one - I'll start increasing it now

Bizarrely she seems thinner but Im sure that is confirmation bias or something
