How do I deal with Ragdoll fluff?

I have two 1 year old Ragdolls and their fur is is the bain of my life at the minute. It is everywhere, just floating in the air, on all of our clothes, in our food, stuck all over the doors and kitchen cupboards.

I groom them daily with a slicker brush and barely anything comes out but they manage to leave a thick fur carpet wherever they walk. When you stroke them it comes away and floats in the air. I never anticipated them being hairier than my Labrador.

Can anyone advise me on how to make this a bit more manageable? Any tips would be very gratefully received.

A Roomba helps, as does regular brushing. But really, you have to lean to live with it!😁

I have Maine coons and I swear I can see a cloud of fur floating into the air when they walk by! I have a Henry and have to be on top of it. Wood floors help.

I used to have two Rag Dolls, now dead after long and happy lives, and, although they were lovely cats, I would never get another long haired cat for this reason. Their hair got everywhere to the point where it became a family joke. My DS opened a new jar of marmalade one day and within seconds their were two cat hairs stuck on the top. We'd open our suitcases on holiday and cat hairs would float out and contaminate our cat-free holiday accommodation. They've been dead 6 years and even now I will sometimes open a little used drawer or cupboard and find long silky hairs lurking in corners.

Passwordsaremynemesis I was fearing that learn to live with it would be the answer. I learned to live with lab hair, but this totally took me by surprise.
mondaytosunday as soon as my dear old dog dies I’ll be having wood floors. She can barely walk though so the carpet needs to stay for now.
*Godesstobe I sympathise and currently feel the same way, maybe things will change as I get used to it. They are sweet little cats, but bloody hell, the mess! *

Metal comb and a table teaser. The con will take it off in clumps round the prongs. (I had two long haired Persians)

Toddlerteaplease · 31/03/2025 17:02

Tangle

Breadcat24 · 31/03/2025 17:19

Save it all and knit a third cat?

TheP1per · 31/03/2025 18:10

Toddlerteaplease oh I’ll get a tangle teaser. I’ve got a metal comb. I’ll try that combo.
Breadcat24 there’s definitely enough for a third cat.

Do you find it worse at this time of year? I adopted my ragdoll in November and she didn't seem to molt. Now, there's clumps everywhere. And she's destroyed my carpet with her claws. But surprisingly, don't care cos she's so beautiful! I'm obviously one of those permissive cat mums 😆

It's hard to advise without a picture.

It’s hard to know because they were only babies before and much less fluffy but it’s been getting steadily worse over winter, and now it’s ridiculous. And my carpet is also ruined throughout the house also. I’m a totally permissive cat mum too.

Oh sorry. Will try to figure out how to do it. Bare with me.

Could you make another highland cow/bull like the one in the picture?

TheP1per · 07/04/2025 20:02

That’s a good idea. Wouldn’t take long to collect enough fluff and the colour match is excellent.

I've just had the empty the hoover three times just doing the living room because of all the cat fur. And my living room is only a bog average size!!!

newtb · 11/04/2025 15:23

Try a furminator that helped with our Maine coon.

richtea5 · 11/04/2025 18:28

We thought we were bringing home a British Shorthair and six months later it became obvious he's a Longhair. I completely agree with having to learn to live with it. He loves to play fight with my other cat too which leads to there being clumps of fluff everywhere. We have a Spaniel too and I don't even notice his hair now.

😍 was for the lovely cat

TheP1per · 14/04/2025 13:58

Thank you, I do love them. They have such sweet personalities. I’ll try the tangle teaser for a bit then move to a furminator if need be. In a couple of years I won’t even notice the fluff I guess.
