Thanks for your help on previous thread about the terrified cat we found in our garden eating bird food, fatballs and stale bread. None of the missing cat sites turned up anything and the oracle of all local wisdom (farmer over the road) did not know who he belonged to.

So he is still living with us and it is going very well for him - he is a lovely cat and super cuddly but still scares easily and doesn't like being picked up.
But our problem is getting our existing cats to tolerate him. We have tried the usual things in recent weeks of allowing him out under supervised conditions.
Part of the problem might be our existing cats - all female aged 5, 5, and 10 - are a bit set in their ways and territory and are not keen on a much larger male cat in the house.
New cat is VERY curious about the other cars and the other issue is that (and I'm not sure if it is a male cat thing or whether he has never lived with other cats before) is that he doesn't appear to understand warnings (growling/hissing) and just trots right up to them to sniff.
Any ideas on the best thing to do? Or do I let them battle it out?
