Changing litter type?

I have two ragdoll house cats, age 7.

I’ve always used non-clumping wood pellet litter in their trays - however I’ve been looking recently at a “self cleaning” litter tray and I don’t think this would be compatible.

Has anyone changed from non-clumping to clumping successfully? I have a (probably irrational!) fear that my cats will start curiously nibbling it and end up with an obstruction that will require a vet trip….

I would try some in a separate tray to start with probably next to your pellet one.

If they are resistant then you could mix it and slowly transition but that could be messy.

have you considered a Brit Box system that helps sieves the disolved pellets?

This type of thing https://brit-pet.com/collections/our-products

For use with a robot litter tray I can highly recommend VanCat litter.

I started out with non clumping as my cats were kittens. Transitioned to clumping when they were about 5 months. I just laid a small amount of the new on top of the old and gradually increased the proportions. It was totally fine and caused no issues at all.

Tofu - pellet like - or plant fibre litters - grit like - clump quickly.
