our cat is coming up to 14 and I think it’s time to get some insurance, can anyone advise reliable providers?

We have always used Petplan and never had any issues with paying out our claims. They will also carry on covering you if your cat develops a problem which is ongoing eg diabetes. Some insurers will exclude things like this from future policies. They wont cover conditions your cat has when you take out a policy.

If the cat is already 14 you may find few insurers will cover you. Is s/he fully vaccinated and healthy?

Your issue will be if they have any existing conditions as at that point you are trapped.

I've always used Direct Line - vet says they are easy to deal with, they pay out quickly to me and not the most expensive.

She is, thankfully.

Excellent, Thankyou.

Be aware that Petplan require a co-payment of a proportion of every vet bill once the cat gets to a certain age (10, I think), as well as the excess. You might want to check how much that's likely to be and whether you would actually be likely to do better by putting aside the annual insurance+excess+guess at vet bills into a moggy savings account.
