Any experiences of enemas..?

Firstly- I can’t believe I’ve just added that title to the internet 😅 but my old girl (age 20!) has been a bit constipated and has been prescribed laxatract by the vet which has helped her a bit but her poops still aren’t great. She is fine in herself otherwise and still eating and peeing.

So the next treatment would potentially be an enema at the vets. Has anyone’s kitties ever had an enema before, did it help and did you have any ‘explosions’?

I am nervous for two reasons - 1. she will need sedated which can be risky at her age and 2. I have very cream carpets!

Paying the cat tax, here is the poor girly looking worried at the vet last week.

Penelope had a mixrolax enema. It did nothing at all.

She shouldn't need sedating?

Beware of explosions, yes. Our vet gave our poor boy one and then, rather meanly, encouraged us to take him home to deal with it! It did do the trick but please don't let your girl anywhere near the carpets for a time...

My girl was badly constipated not long ago and she had enemas at the vets. This was along side Laxapet which she will stay on. Still took awhile for the poop to come out after all the medication. I must say when it did come out, she did accidentally do a bit on the carpet, but it was more hard mixed with soft because it obviously been in her for awhile. After that, they were pretty much normal.
