Please help! Cat peeing on bed- with us in it!

We have a six month old rescue kitten, who has been with us just over a month. This morning I was awoken by him jumping on me, scraping on me like he does his litter tray. He had done a huge wee on the duvet at the end of the bed. We’ve had a couple of incidents where he’s pooed in the bath in the early hours (usually between 4-6am by my reckoning). I’ve heard this can be a ‘thing’, as the bath can look a bit like a giant litter tray to them. But until this morning we’ve never had any wee accidents. This happened a few minutes after 6am, which is the time we normally get up Monday - Friday.

He’s neutered, wormed, and in the last week we’ve just started introducing him to the garden (he’s been desperate to get out for the last couple of weeks.)
We don’t know too much about his history, other than his original owner wasn’t able to look after him any more so he was surrendered to a rehoming charity. As he hadn’t had his jabs when we got him he was checked over when we took him in for them, and he was given a clean bill of health.
He’s very cuddly, affectionate and gentle, which is lovely, but I suspect that might be a little bit of underlying nervousness, if that makes sense?
What on earth is going on with our lovely boy?

I'm interested to know too, cos my 4yo boy is peeing in random places too, including dd's bed! Sick of washing duvet!

Could be a UTI which is very serious in a cat. You need to speak to vet today.

My cat went through a phase of peeing on duvets at one point. In her case, it was because she'd accidentally been locked in the bedroom and I think the "give" of the duvet when she scraped it made her think it was like a litter tray. Perhaps something similar happened in his previous home, and he happened to need a wee at that time so thought your duvet was a good place to do it?!

We solved it by religoiusly closing the bedroom door so she didn't have access to our bed for several months. Also, our litter tray is in the utility room so we now have a doorstop to hold the door open so she can always get access to the litter tray (she also goes outside). She never toilets in the wrong place now.

Thank you @Bristolinfeb , this is was what worried me, it seems very out of character.

That’s really interesting @TheSeaOfTranquility , we’ve been incredibly careful to make sure he doesn’t get locked in anywhere, but of course we’ve absolutely no idea what happened to him for the first few months of his life.
