We have just got a 5month old Siberian forest cat ….. he’s indoors for now but never having had a cat before I’m struggling to find the right litter. He’s got a top access litter tray.

Someone suggested wood litter from Pets at Home - but it was granules and he came out utterly covered from nose to tail ! Bought the same type but pellets instead and whilst it doesn’t get stuck to him or track it’s not the best at odour control

any suggestions for non tracking litter that doesn’t get stuck all over his floofiness that also controls odour ?

Need clumping liter.

But the wood granule one was clumping and it stuck all over his fur ?

Oko Cat's Best clumping cat litter

Amazon Lifelong clumping corn litter (cheaper and what I've been using for the last few years)

You need to fill the litter tray quite deeply (5-6cm) and then you pick out the clumps. When I tried Sanicat minerals clumping litter to save money, the tray absolutely stank within days.

The other thing that can help is having a top entry litter tray - it reduces the amount of tracking from my experience.

Your kitten must be gorgeous!

We use Greenwood's.

I use Sainsburys clumping litter - costs about £7 a bag. I have 2 cats that use the tray, it’s a deep one with a built in sifting tray. I sift it daily but only need to change the whole litter once a week.

Sani-cat 7day freshness, I won’t use anything else it’s not too expensive either I have it on subscribe and save Amazon.

Thanks all for the replies…. Would these work for fluffy cats ? His tail is huge already and he has a very furry coat that things seem to stick to

I can't think of any litters which are less likely to get stuck in long fur.

When you say he has a 'top access' tray do you mean one like this?

www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/cat_litter_litter_boxes/hooded_litter_box/litter_boxes_without_filter/600276?variantId=600276.1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=google_pmax&utm_campaign=17630010178&utm_term=600276.1&utm_content=pla&utm_id=17630010178_17630010178&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAtYy9BhBcEiwANWQQL9HMlRtG0yf31akK7XydhKSb0rEc9D3UiPzG_RLg1yApR6zdNOMVQRoCRzgQAvD_BwE&activeVariant=600276.1

If so I think that is probably the main reason he comes out covered in litter. Using a 'regular' litter tray would probably help more than changing the litter.

VanCat. We use baby powder scent but it has barely any scent. No cat pee smell, ever. 7cms deep or more. Use a litter tracking mat in front of the tray. We have Maine Coons with huge feather duster tails and no problem with this litter. Online order only but it’s cheaper than the other quality clumping litters.

When you used wood pellets, did you use them with a litter tray with a ‘sieving system’ (where you put wood pellets below the sieve base as well, to absorb pee) ? We use the Brit pet one and it works really well with our long haired cat … no smell or tracking, cheaper than clumping litter, and environmetally friendly. It takes a while to get used to the setup but I wouldn’t use anything else now.
