He's 19 years old and recently come back to us, took him vets who said we need to feed him a high quality senior food Iver the next fortnight to see if his skinniness is age/illness related or just he's not been fed enough.

He was on Felix pouches before.

Any suggestions please!

Am shit hot on dog foods but not cat!

My cat is quite a bit younger at 12, but he was skinny and unhealthy looking when we rescued him last summer. I was recommended to try Katkin and he has really filled out and his coat is looking so much better after being on it for only a few weeks.

Felix isn’t proper meat.

Go on to something like zooplus and look for high protein corn free food.

From pet shops, Nature's menu was always good, although expensive.

My cat is 18 with hyperthyroidism. We feed him the gold gourmet pate tins and he has put on weight.

He gets half a tin morning & evening with his medicine and then a full tin at lunch time.

Mine had Animonda Carny kitten food - high energy, very palatable, easy to soften with warm water in the event of dental issues.

Oh, and a bucket of Lik-e-lix. Two a day. She adored those.

Our 21 year old likes untamed, although she would live on creamy treats if we let her

I know that's why we are asking, we didn't feed him Felix.

I would definitely look on zooplus. Feringa or Rosie farm springs to mind.

My cat is reluctant to have good quality cat food but loves the high quality purizon dry so I add that to his sheba fine flakes.

Could you offer some chicken breast too.

Sunshineandrainbow · 05/02/2025 13:06

If you want something you can pick up locally rather then online. Have a look at Harringtons or butchers cat food,

It's really hit and miss with old cats. Mine was so thin I thought she was on the way out. I tried everything. Wet food makes her throw up. I worked through every high quality dry food on zooplus. Then once in despair I gave her brekkies. She devoured them. Now she is on a diet of brekkies and friskies and has gained weight and is looking much healthier.

We call it the macdonald's approach.

I ordered from amazon and he loves them. Ate the whole thing so it might not be the best but he was very enthusiastic.

That's good!

It's the only food I have found both my cats will eat.

We lost our old boy last month but I came on to say the Gold gourmet paté tins too. He had one in the morning and another one at teatime, plus a bowl of dried kitten food (Applaws chicken flavour was his favourite) which he grazed at all day, a Lik-e-lix at lunchtime and several Dreamies during the day!

We have a cat with hyperthyroidism. For quite a while, Gourmet Pate was all he would eat. In the last year, he's gone through phases of only eating about a dozen foods. As soon as we think we have a food he'll eat, he starts to refuse it. He waits until we've stocked up on it, of course.

I was a bit shocked that Gourmet pate is pretty crap - expensive crap. The best quality food that we've found he likes (sometimes) is Scrumbles which we buy on subscribe and save from Amazon. It's also available from Sainsburys and Pets At Home, as is Lily's which he really liked (for a while). I buy that from Lily's when they have a discount and free delivery offer.
