Hi :) I currently feed my cat, Twix, a diet of half untamed wet food and half royal canin gastrointestinal wet food (vet recommended) with some purina dry food. I started feeding this to her a few months ago and she does eat it but doesn’t seem to enjoy it as much as she did her previous food (Whiskas). This is lower quality food compared to her current diet, any suggestions for new food to try, or is there a way to make her food more appealing? I have provided some cat tax of Twix enjoying her christmas dinner

I'm afraid I'm very cynical when I see that people feed Royal Canin because a "vet has recommended it" - the vast majority of vets are taught very little about nutrition and will be selling on commission.

For me, the best food is one that is affordable and that my cats enjoy. I don't see the point in expensive foods that just get picked at, or that are mostly thrown in the bin. My three get Sheba wet (we mix up the flavours) and Purina dry (again, we mix up the flavours) and they eat in seconds and never leave a scrap in their bowls.

Twix is a fab name! Penelope has Amazon lifelong dry food. It's grain free. The late cheddar had a really sensitive tummy, and it made a huge difference to her.

Thank you! Twix had the same so was recommended gastrointestinal food, hence the royal canin. Might look into the Amazon lifelong :))

Mine gets ox or pig heart raw from Morrisons. It is human grade meat

he also gets the frozen fish from Aldi. He does not like it cooked so defrosted and raw

he also gets perfect fit biscuit

he also gets pouches but just licks the gravy off them 😖

Edited

The vet recommended gastrointestinal food as she was having some digestive problems and I saw a lot online about royal canin having the best quality food, it was also the easiest to buy online although I have heard Sheba is tasty for cats so worth considering. She does eat her food most of the time but she used to lick the bowl clean with whiskas!

I fed my first two girls on Royal Canin Persian and they did well on that. But Cheddar just couldn't tolerate any variety of it. She was better on Iams, but still very sick. When she started on Amazon, she was hardly ever sick and the brown lines round her eyes disappeared.

There's a few gastrointestinal foods around that are recommended - my vet tends to recommend Hills for gastro issues, though they also recommend RC for other types of conditions that need specialist food e.g. Hills for kidney disease, RC for weight loss/ appetite control etc. They are all slightly different, so you may need to go to get small packs of each of them to see which suits Twix the best.

Regarding wet, they love things like Sheba, Whiskas etc because to them it's like having a McDonalds or KFC every day - very tasty, but maybe not ideal nutritionally.

My Dsis & I went through a large number of brands ranging from cheap to very expensive finding out which grain free was accepted by our cats. She would try one, and if hers didn't like it I would get the rest of the pack to try mine on and vice versa. Mine have settled on Harringtons as their favorite grain free followed by Webbox, and will also accept the odd pouch of Morrisons grain free.

Our cat likes gourmet perle and Sheba - prefers fish and jelly rather than gravy
