Using prescription flea treatment but still getting fleas.

My young cat is a murderous thug bit of hunter and gets Bravecto from the vet as he's probably exposed to all sorts. I just found a flea on him. ☹️
Is there anything better than Bravecto we can use? I'll speak to the vet, but wondered if anyone has any recommendations.

Seeing a flea does not mean the product isn't working. The flea bites and so ingests the Bravecto which kills it, so you can still see fleas in the interim between biting and dying. On darker furred cats you don't tend to notice, but on paler furred cats you can see the fleas during that time.

We had advocate from the vets which has not worked then got given bravecto this week. Cat is still doing the itchy ear scratch. There are a lot of mice around in my neighbourhood and therefore fleas around as well. 6 years ago Advocate was powerful enough, fleas must have developped immunity or something??

Credelio tablets seem to work best for us at the moment. So much cleaner and easier than spot on as well.

You've hit the nail on the head in your case. In some areas fleas have developed immunity to some previously effective treatments, though not all places or treatments. Same as with antibiotics - things like the MRSA superbug are no longer treatable with the older antibiotics and new ones are having to be developed all the time.

Treating the cat is a small part of the battle.

Most of the fleas/larvae/eggs are in the home. You've got to be super thorough with hoovering, hot washing and use a good flea spray like Indorex.

It could just be a flea that has hopped on him while he was out. If it bites him it will be dead soon (assuming you haven't already killed it).

I squashed it immediately!
The vet changed his treatment to prinocate, so hopefully that will help. I think it was just one that hopped on but hadn't yet bit him. 🤞

I agree with @GloriousBlue about treating your home throughout.
Move all the furniture put of the way and spray round the edges of the rooms.
Then spray the furniture and push it back and the spray the rest of the room.
Wash all clothing snd bedding on the hottest it can cope with or spray it too.
Then do it all again a few days later to kill the ones that were in a lava state the 1st time round.

The vet said the eggs can survive 2 years! So you'd never be guaranteed to be free of them. 😬
