I saw her do it and rushed downstairs, she came in holding her back leg up and then limped into the living room. Picked her up and drove straight to the vets (I did call them while I was getting my shoes on and they said bring her straight away).

They said they can’t feel any fractures or breaks so have sent us home with gabapentin. The vet gave her her first dose while we were there but doesn’t seem to have kicked in yet because she can’t get comfortable at all. She is trying to sleep but can’t keep still and keeps moving around changing position, she must be in so much pain.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the medication to work and if it’s strong? If she hasn’t fractured or broken it I’m not sure what else would be causing so much pain. The vet said she could’ve twisted it or strained a ligament or something. But the way she’s moving not using the leg feels like it’s more serious. He said to bring her back Monday if there’s no improvement but that seems like a long time to wait with her being in pain. I really want to help her but can’t and I’m worried that it’s something more serious and don’t want to leave it, but trying to trust the vet

Personally I would be tempted to put her in a crate if you can find one tomorrow or at least in a room where she can't jump up to keep her in the ground while it heals a bit.

Gabapentin has a dose range, call your vet and ask if she's on max dose, I would have though some antiinflammatory meds would have been given as well, such as metacam. I'd call back and tell them what you said here.

He said there’s no need to crate her but keep her in one room. We have a small spare room where the bed is low to the ground so keeping her in there

I have just called the vet to ask them about this. They said to see how she goes on only gabapentin for now but if she’s still in visible discomfort in the morning they will prescribe some anti inflammatory
