Which high calorie dry food to buy for senior cat?

Our female cat is aged somewhere between 14.5 - 16 years (we think, based on vets estimate). She could be slightly old but definitely no younger than 14.5 years.

She's always been a very small, light girl but about 12 months ago she started losing weight. Vet ruled out any health conditions and said it's likely to be part of the aging process.

We moved her dry food to Purina One Bifensis Senior and it really helped her put on weight. However, she's decided she doesn't like it anymore.

Can anyone recommend a sensibly priced high calorie senior dry food that helps maintain a good weight please? I went in to my local pet shop today but the food they recommended was £50 for 1kg & that's just not a sustainable financial outlay.

Our cat doesn’t eat dry food and the vet suggested kitten food as it’s high calorie and high protein.

@StormingNorman thank you. It hadn't occurred to me at all to offer her kitten food but it makes sense with the high protein & calories. I'll add some to my shopping list.

I came on to say the same as @StormingNorman !

We had an elderly skinny cat, he was put on to Applaws dry kitten food, and he also had a tin of Purina Gold paté morning and evening. He wasn't normally good with tinned food, but the senior version of that Purina one was the only canned food that didn't upset his stomach.

It's so difficult with the wee skinny minnies isn't it? Most food for elderly cats seems to focus on trying to get them to lose weight, not gain!

(Edited to add - I nearly forgot, he also had a Lik-e-lix thing at lunchtime, and several Dreamies throughout the day!)

Trying to keep the weight on and finding things that don’t upset their tummies is so hard. Ours is 20 and was a small cat to start with!

We keep our cats wight up with a couple of pumps of salmon oil on her senior cat food. She has arthritis and so it’s good for her joints, but also adds some fat and calories to her diet
