my cat has to go and have an operation - its relatively urgent, but not life threatening, so the vet has been calling around to find a slot sooner than April and has now referred me to a hospital in Swindon for him to have two top canines removed, which have snapped at the root, and who's exposed pulp is causing pain / odema and chronic inflammation.
The problem is that I live on the E Sussex coast, and its 3 hours away and my cat HATES being in the car and meows constantly (we had to take him 15 miles for the out of hours last night and it was pretty stressful)
In addition he refuses to use a litter tray, and its almost impossible to keep him indoors.
How on earth am I going to do this?

Could your vet give him some kind of sedative for the journey?
Googling shows some vet dental surgeons in East Sussex could you not try one of those?

yes thats an idea. my vet rang round alot of places, and nobody had an appointment before April, but it may be worth me calling them perhaps

Def see if the vet can give you a prescription for gabapentin or similar! Makes it easier for all involved.

I know this pain...
Lots of feliway spray also helps take the edge off it. Hope you get sorted op it's horrible when they don't travel well.

They are going to see him on Monday. that gives me time to get some sedatives from the vet, who I will pop in to see tomorrow. The appointment isnt until 11 so at least i wont need to set of quite at the crack of dawn, and as its only 2 teeth out they say he wont need to stay overnight which is a relief. will be glad when its over but he better not get in any more trouble as I think this is likely to take me near to my yearly vet bill limit on the insurance.

My parents cat had gabapentin when they moved house. And had a long drive. Turns out he travels really well. So doesn't need it when he comes to a cattery near me. My cat also had it for stress and it worked well.

well he had 2 tablets on the way there which definately reduced the meowing. On the way back he still was under the effects of the anaesthetic, but he pretty much complained all the way home. He doesnt actually seem upset / frightened by the car, just pissed off that he is in a box.
Operation went well though, and he can have his 14 day check up at the local vet. But my god, that was a long day
