Worms

Ugh my cat vomited worms all over the carpet. Unexpected and disgusting.

I never actually knew that could happen. Send hope, I'm traumatised 😂

Edit for typo

Sending worming tablets would be more useful.
Kitten with a big worm burden from an uncared for queen? Or an adult cat in which case it needs worming much more regularly - monthly for roundworm and every 3-6 months for tapeworm depending on how much of a hunter.

I’d get the cat to see a vet as soon as possible. Given that it’s the weekend, you’ll probably have to see the emergency vet if you don’t want to wait until Monday. The emergency vet will charge an arm and a leg, but given what you’ve described, I’d be going. I accept that I’m lucky enough to be able to afford it.

We've always followed vet advice and fleaed and wormed as recommended. The vet said she's never experienced a fail with the brand we are using. But there we go.

Cat has, today, had a one off liquid treatment, which stank and a tablet, which didn't.

Luckily my vets is open on a Saturday and saw the cat pretty quickly.

So the cat is feeling brighter now. Finally. We've had poop on the bed, vom on the floors, he's been off his food.

Anyway....the vet said they've never known of a "fail" with the flea/worm treatment we use. Has anyone else come across that before?

I don't usually see my cats stools but I'm pretty sure his worming treatment has failed after seeing a rare indoor accident. I usually use DronSpot- will be heading to the vets for an alternative next week. Which treatment do you use @Axalotllittle ?

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 10/01/2025 21:30

Parasites develop pesticide resistance all the time and the drug companies don't publish research results that show that their products have stopped working.

Try changing wormer, if you can. And change your flea treatment, because tapeworms are transmitted by the cat ingesting fleas whilst grooming.

Axalotllittle · 10/01/2025 21:46

Oh yuck. I didn't know that about tape worms!!

The vet was more than happy to change treatment. But she acted surprised it failed.

Id have to look up the name I've used. I wouldn't remember it off the top of my head. Never missed a dose though as it's saved in my calendar on my phone

I know from bitter experience that fleas develop resistance to treatment all the time so I can't see why it'd be different for worms but it's not something I've heard of so often! Hopefully you've caught it with the new treatment and no more worm vomming incidents 🤢
