Insurance for chronic conditions

We are currently with Tesco and the quote for next year has just come through and for my cat with hyperesthesia the quote has doubled to £900 Shock

We claim for her gabapentin monthly (I think it’s £30-40) and her checkups that the vet randomly calls us in for. We also claimed for the initial investigations 6 years ago.

I phoned Tesco and there is no way of bringing it down. I am struggling to even get quotes from other companies, the only vaguely helpful ones so far are Petsure who are speaking to an expert and getting back to me.

Am I doomed to spending over £100 on insuring 2 cats, more than my car, forever more?

I think if you switch insurer your cat's preexisting condition won't be covered. So your choice effectively is pay a higher premium to Tesco but have the vet bills covered, or switch and pay for the meds & appointments.
Vet costs are extremely high, therefore the insurance is as well :/

I'm with Tesco. I was paying £138 a month for my two old girls. They were still the cheapest. When I said it wa too much. They were really good and coming up with a good deal.

Even the Tesco call handler was shocked! But she said there was nothing she could do Sad

Update - we are going to swap to Petsure - £35 a month for both. Any deterioration in her current condition will be covered but her current meds won’t be. It’s still cheaper!
