Feeling so guilty about leaving them

I almost don’t want to go. I don’t know I was never this bad but cancer is a sod for making you emotional. BTW I’m not talking about leaving them for good just for two days over New Year 😀. My two girls aren’t bothered about going out. My stray kitten has been done and she’s not allowed out. So far so easy. It’s the boys. They go out and need letting back in and locking in on a night. We are in a flat and my elderly neighbour said she will look after them but she goes to bed at 8pm!!!! And my boys have their routines out at six back at ten for bed. The won’t use a litter tray. I have a cat flap leading to our joint hallway but not to the flat. I guess they could stay in the cold joint hallway until the morning? I would leave my flat door open but then the kitten would escape.

so far I have bought two double electric feeders a water fountain and two cameras. I don’t know if cameras are any good. It’s cost me more than a professional cat sitter 😀😀

I’m struggling to make sense of your post. But we have a SureFlap smart microchip catflap and we can set times for it to lock/unlock and set it to allow some cats out but not others.

For two days is nothing! Don't feel guilty- they will be a bit bored but will forget all about it instantly. I would be tempted just to leave everyone inside with feeders and neighbour dropping in...for my own peace of mind. The other option is to spend even more money on an internal cat flap which can be locked so your boys can get into the house but no one can get out again. That would be useful for the future too.

The idea of leaving them in the hallway with outdoor access is also completely fine- don't worry!!

I hope the health worries are resolved in the best possible way- sorry you are having a hard time with that.

It’s not difficult to understand. The flats share a joint hallway . A fire exit door leading to the outside stairs. The fire exit door has the cat flap. The hall has a new carpet so it’s not a cold floor. I can’t put a cat flap in the flat door as it’s not the right kind of door I’ve had the handyman look at it before.

it’s just two nights

Cam you just put the auto feeder in the hall?

EachandEveryone · 28/12/2024 18:04

No power there and it’s a plug in. It’s not a problem they share it with a couple of ferals 😀

honestly I’m starting to sound like a mad cat lady and I’m really not. I just can’t see anyone out in the cold. Half of them have probably played me but. It is what it is.

im even tempted to book my yellow sticker turkey breast for them tomorrow even though i really don’t fancy more turkey

I have a large shed which has an auto feeder, a sofa with a heat mat on it and and a range of beds for my ferals. If I couldn't run an extension under the door I'd just get the neighbour to dish out food in the hall for them whilst you are away.

EachandEveryone · 28/12/2024 21:44

Yes she will do that. I would pay someone to come in but there’s no point in booking someone the instructions are too complicated 😀

here they are even the baby is enjoying the catnip

I’m just here to be grateful it’s not another ‘shall I rehome the cats’ post! Your cats have a lovely & loving home so
will be absolutely fine! 2 days of routine upset will be soon forgiven😀

I have a “friend” who has just rehomed his cats because he’s met a new fella with a dog. And he put a heartbreaking post on Facebook and everyone was feeling sorry for him. I don’t think I want to be his friend anymore😞 It keeps me awake at night wondering what will happen to my cats if the cancer wins so to give them away because I’d met a bloke it’s unthinkable to me.

Dear me it’s gone from bad to worse thank goodness I’m on my way home.

my neighbour collapsed and was rushed to hospital with pneumonia on the night I left! Anyway, she’s the priority but my girls will be going mad. I’m home at 6.
