Worming cats

Got totally distracted by naming the tabby kittens but I came on here to ask about worming treatments. My vet is suggesting a spot of treatment every 3 months that costs £50 but I've always bought frontline which is much cheaper. My ragdoll had a serious tummy upset recently (he is ok now) so I'm worried it was caused by not using good enough wormer. Should I go with the vets £50 option or do others feel the cheaper frontline one is ok? Wondered what others use basically. I've had cats all my life and never remembered wormer being so expensive!

My vet gives Drontal spot on, which I now buy from an on-line pet store for £6.50! Exactly the same stuff. To be fair to the vet, they didn't charge much for it, maybe about £15, but I stopped going as it wasn't cost effective and the cat hates going to the vet to be checked.

I've only ever treated cats for worms as a cure not a preventative - and ours, despite being outdoor cats, only get worms very very rarely.
Do your cats go outside? If not, and if they have been previously treated, I would have thought it was vanishingly unlikely that they would pick up worms at all.

Personally I wouldn't rely on Frontline - I've heard far too many stories of pets being treated regularly and still getting infected.

We use Dronspot for ours as they go out and hunt and are likely to pick up all sorts from filthy puddles.

Personally, I will never buy Frontline again as two of our cats had a severe reaction to it. They both needed veterinary care - costing much more than the saving of buying OTC treatment.

The same as a pp, we only treat for worms when needed. Our indoor/outdoor cat who is usually fearless, hyperventilates as soon as she's put in the carrier.

I use a combined flea and wormer monthly (stronghold plus) and then every 6 months I use a different wormer (profender) that covers a type of worm that isn't killed by the monthly one. They are both spot on treatments
