Hello,

My first time posting on the litter tray!

My cat is nearly 7 and I have been wondering for a while about switching her onto a less processed and more natural food. For context, she has been on Royal Canin Sensitive for some years now due to ongoing stomach issues when she was a kitten and young cat. She has been better for a long while now although still prone to very occasional bouts of runny poo when she has eaten elsewhere (that's a whole other thread...).

In general I'm ok with sticking with RC Sensitive, however I'm getting more interested in whether a more natural protein rich food will make her more satisfied and less likely to eat poor quality food elsewhere.

I've looked into Untamed which will be around £80 a month. This will work out a lot more expensive than her current food which usually comes to around £160 for over three months worth. I'm ok with the cost if it's worth it, however does anyone have any experiences with Untamed?

Does anyone have any recommendations for other brands which are natural? I'd be interested in hearing experiences for me to research before making some decisions to trial.

I'm aware that I would need to switch her slowly on to a new food which is why I would like to be somewhat sure that it'll be worth it before embarking on a switch.

She is unfussy and a greedy gannet so I'm hopeful that there won't be any nose turning at new food...I'm more worried about a return of her stomach issues!

All advice gratefully received. Thank you in advance!

We've recently switched all three of ours to katkin and it's going well, and we have one very fussy cat and one with a sensitive stomach. They calculate daily calorie requirement and then it comes in two sachets for you to feed twice a day. This is not recommended by katkin, but we actually get slightly smaller portions as ours have good quality dry (thrive) to supplement their wet food. This also makes it cheaper. Also they don't recommend a slow intro, but do recommend you start with their plainest flavour (chicken, or cluck as they call it).

The cat with the sensitive tummy was originally pushed toward hypoallergenic or sensitivity food, but when I looked into these they have long ingredient lists and lots of fillers and I wanted to try good quality high protein food first. He's had one bout of sickness after he had the beef flavour, so we just aren't feeding him that for a while. We will try again at some point though to establish whether it was the food or just a coincidence. He was being sick 2-3 times a week before.

I have untamed and just bite the bullet on cost. I found they left or turned their nose up and some cheaper food so I was wasting money anyway. Untamed is just either fish or chicken based, proper meat. I got some on my finger once and unconsciously licked it off, quite tasty 😆. Feed kibble too for their teeth.

Think they do a cheap sample box too.
