Rehoming 'DS's' cat

We've come to the end road and feel like we have to rehome our interloper. I feel awful and DS will be devastated but it has to be done.

LittleBugger was a stray who attached himself to Mr Tiddles and followed him home. He was half starved so we fed him and traced his owners. Owners never bothered to collect him so he's been here for just over a year.

He's a really friendly cat and is DS's shadow. DS adores him. Problem is that once he got his paws under the table he became a demon to Mr Tiddles. We've tried everything to bring about peace and hoped it would settle with time.

Unfortunately it hasn't and Mr Tiddles is living in terror. He's peeing all over the house because Little Bugger menaces him when he tries to use the cat flap or litter trays.

We also have an Old Lady cat who takes no shit. But even she is starting to show signs of fear. It can't go on and Little Bugger is going to have to be rehomed.

How on earth do I manage this?

Is LittleBugger neutered?

coffeesaveslives · 25/11/2024 11:35

Is he neutered and do you have enough resources for all three cats?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 25/11/2024 11:58

Yes we had him neutered as soon as it became clear his owners weren't going to collect him.

I'm so sorry, poor DS & poor Mr Tiddles. Sometimes cats just do not get on or one is a bully and wants to be top cat and nothing can be done to make it better.

Is there any way they can be kept apart, especially inside? And have you tried adding extra litter trays, feeding separately, Feliway plug ins?

In terms of rehoming you'll have to phone around all the local rescues to see if any can take him in. It might be hard to get them to take him given he's not in any danger and has a home, but keep at it, and try the smaller rescues as well as the big names. Emphasise he is friendly and just needs to be an only cat. Ask at the vets as well, in case maybe someone has had a cat die/PTS and might be interested.

Also put the word out amongst friends and family in case someone is tempted. I ended up with TempCat through him needing a "temporary" foster home (2 years ago....!) so you never know.

Aw this is difficult but I think if one causes bullying and upsetting the other 2 he will have to be rehomed to be the only cat in the house.

The cat we adopted from the RSPCA had previously been adopted then returned because he was bullied by the adopters' existing cat 😢 Some cats just don't get on.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 25/11/2024 12:05

We have enough resources. Little Bugger just seems to enjoy scrapping. Mr Tiddles doesn't and gets very scared, despite being twice the size of the little one.

So for three cats you'll need at least four litter trays as well as plenty of space for each cat to have its' own food and water if necessary, also plenty of high up areas for them to jump as well as beds and boxes etc.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 25/11/2024 12:56

I've just bought some extra litter trays as a temporary measure. We're trying to find him a new home through friends. I don't have it in me to send him to a resue.
