Blood in cat’s stools

Our 2 year old cat has stopped using her litter tray and now either goes in the garden or by the front door. Recently, her poo has had blood in it. The vet tried her on probiotics and a bland diet but no change so far, I’m just about to drop off her stool sample to them but does anyone have experience of this and what was the outcome? So worried.

Is she fully up to date on all her worming?

She is now, but it was overdue as I can never get her to eat the tablet

It could be from worms, or some kind of bacteria if she goes outside and drinks out of filthy puddles etc.

I also instantly thought worms, if she won’t eat the tablet get the jab from the vets or try Panacure liquid

One of ours had it, turned out he had FORL, resorptive tooth lesions which cause local inflammation. I think that may affect more of the digestive tract than just the mouth.

He had bloody stools, his bloods showed raised inflammation markers. Since he's had the affected teeth removed, we've not noticed any more blood and he's been eating well (we alternate food for gastro/ delicate digestion and good quality fish based brands for variety in case unrelated plus probiotics).

Could be totally unrelated, IBD isn't uncommon in cats, apparently but may be worth asking the vet to check her teeth if they don't anyway.

Our boy had some kind of inflammatory bowel condition too. All the tests bloods, stool samples etc were inconclusive. Bloody poo and losing weight and looking generally uncomfortable.

Next step we were offered was a full thickness biopsy to decide if it was IBD or cancer but after considering it we opted for a course of steroids (which would have been the treatment offered after the diagnosis anyway for both IBD and stomach cancer (as we had already decided chemo wouldn't be an option).

We switched to feeding KatKin pork variety as a grain free, single protein source diet as there's some evidence grain and some meats can cause allergies. Things improved quickly and he was well for another few years. More recently he's had another flare up, affecting his mouth this time and has been diagnosed with stomatitis. He's now had all his teeth removed and once again seems to be doing OK 🤞
