Angst after surgery

One of my cats had some dental treatment today involving a general anaesthetic. In the end no real treatment was needed, they thought she needed a tooth or two out but that was not necessary. However I have brought her home and her sister has been hissing and spitting at her. They are 5 years old and there's been no aggression before this.
I am afraid to go to bed in case there is some overnight drama!
Will everything go back to normal soon?

She smells strange after being at the vets. It should pass.

Our two cats (brothers) always did this for at least a week after a vet visit, more if one was actually ill. Their smell changes and their tiny walnut brains can’t work it out. It wears off.

Yes I can see that her sister seems to be smelling things, gosh a whole week!

I am a bit annoyed to be honest, the vet said there were several bad teeth and actually it transpired there were none, so the poor cat has gone through the operation for little reason.

And her sister is now hissing at her😳

Get a cloth and rub it over the Hissy thing including around her cheek scent glands. Then rub the cloth over the other one. Then go back to Hissy and rub the other ones scent over her. Do this several times over the course of a day. Once they smell like each other Hissy should stop hissing.

Hopefully that's clear enough Grin

Oh god I remember how stressful this is

Hope they're over it soon OP

Thanks @Pixiedust1234 I will try this cloth trick as the hissing is continuing into this morning.

Just checking in to see if things have managed to calm down yet or is Hissy thing still hissing?

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 17/11/2024 06:38

Thanks @Pixiedust1234
Hissy thing is still hissing, but maybe not as much as before. I think she is hissing if surgery thing comes too close, so at least they can pass each other without incident now.
I have put in some plug in feliway diffusers and have been using the cloth treatment too.

Oh that's a shame. Hopefully in a few days MrsHissyPants realises the other is staying and is actually lovely to be around. Fingers crossed for you 🍀🐾
