Young cat being 'sick' several times a day

My DD's young cat (aged 3) has suddenly started to be a bit sick several times a day. Its not masses of food or anything but mainly bile and froth. It has been doing it on and off for a week or two. She has taken it to the vet who wasn't overly worried. As the cat is currently well in herself, peeing, pooing fine and drinking she said to just keep an eye on her. But she has been 'sick' again 3 times this morning and my DD is worried (she is a bit of a worrier)

Has anyone had this kind of thing with their cat before and if so did it sort itself out? Did you change the cats diet or do anything to help them?

It sounds like hairballs. If the cat will take it, get some kind of licking paste which will help him cough it up eventually. My 2 cats won’t take any of the pastes or dry foods aimed at dealing with hairballs but I mix about a tbspn of tinned pumpkin in with their wet food once a day and they have less problems in general - think it helps everything pass through.

Thank you. I have never owned cats so have no idea so this is really useful. I will pass this info on to my daughter so she can try this. x

In the short term, if cat was interested in licking a bit of butter, any kind of lubrication might help shift current hairball till she gets chance to go to petshop. Be warned, if you don’t see him cough it up, it may look for all the world like it’s a poop on the floor but it’s not stinky 😝

edited to add: ours won’t lick butter either but some cats will lick it off their paws. Be careful puttIng paste on paws as it causes a right mess if cat is stubborn. Better if they learn to lick it off a spoon or straight from the tube.

You can also get anti-hairball treats, though mine don't really like them.

Something like salmon oil in their food (assuming they like it) will give lovely glossy coats and have other health benefits, and MAY help with hairballs (jury still out on this one.

And if the cat is an indoor only cat, then make sure there's a little pot of cat grass growing near their food bowls - this can help hairballs and is good for digestion. But beware - it can make them upchuck as well, but that's WHY they eat it, to help get rid of things. My dearly departed Boycat would eat grass, then throw up a sort of thin "soup" of foamy liquid, bits of grass and hair that hadn't had time to form into a proper ball.

We had this. The vet was never worried as she was otherwise eating like a horse, completely normal in all respects, and after a few trips back and forth over several months unfortunately it did actually turn out to be serious. I had to really push for tests (each time we took her she got an injection and we were told to bring her back in if she puked within 24 hours of it which she never did) as she was otherwise so “well”. It’s probably nothing in your case, but don’t be afraid to advocate for her.

We rescued a mother and daughter and initially gave them wet food pouches. At first they seemed fine on them but gradually started vomiting more and more often. So we switched to almost exclusively dry food and the problem stopped.
