Just dropped off cat at vets

Just a handhold really. I have just got home from dropping my cat off at the vets for a dental. I hate this so much, I hate waiting all day feeling anxious waiting for them to call to tell me if he’s okay. The vet said they do dentals last so I just have the image of him sat in a cage scared until it’s his turn.

I know other people know exactly how I feel. I have work to do but won’t be able to fully concentrate on it. I just want to go and get him now 😢

Thank you! He has had a problem with being sick recently so I’m extra worried for the anaesthetic. He hasn’t thrown up since Thursday and the vet knows and he has been starved overnight so should be fine but I feel so anxious. I wish they could do his first and get it over with! Ahhh

Oh it's the worst. The last time I dropped my boy off for a dental I was really brave until I saw his little face looking out at me as they brought his carrier away and then I burst into tears.

Our vet is a country vet more used to large animals etc so think they think I am a bit weird but oh well!!

He will be absolutely fine though, but a bit groggy when he gets home.

What I find helpful sometimes (as well as distraction and just letting myself be upset) is setting a timer, so you can see the time until you expect to have him back reducing.

Oh I know how you feel! I'm going to be in this position on Wednesday when my girl has to be dropped of at 8am for dental work and I will be fretting all day, as she won't understand what's happening to her. She's nearly 15 and I'm worried she won't survive it.

Please let us know how he gets on.

ah luckily I walked away before they walked away with him so didn’t have to watch him be carried off into the distance because I wouldn’t have been able to cope! The imagine of him say in his cage now waiting is awful. He’s such a sensitive and anxious boy, he will be so scared and wondering what’s going on 😢

The timer is a good idea! The vet said they’ll ring me when he’s awake but I don’t need to pick him up until 6pm if I can’t get out of work. Erm no i will be half way out the door as soon as I get the call! Stuff work

Oh noooo it’s so awful! I wish they could understand us so that we could explain what’s going on. I can see why you would be more worried with the age. But I assume your cat is otherwise healthy or else I’m sure the vet wouldn’t risk it ❤️

I know, it's horrible to think about them not understanding what's going on. But it's only for a short time and the dental will do him so much good in the long run.

Oh absolutely stuff work! I'd go get him the second I was allowed!

Let us know how he gets on 💐

The veterinary staff are excellent at what they do and they will treat your boy with kindness. They will talk to him and reassure him. They are calm and that will help him to feel calm.

He will be home for a cuddle soon x

I hate having to starve from
The night before when I know they won't get operated on until afternoon. Humans would be allowed breakfast and then clear fluids until sent for!

tortietimestwo · 14/10/2024 11:24

Sending you a big cuddle!

I'm exactly the same, one of my two is anxious and she had to go into the hospital for observation a few months ago and I was beside myself. But the staff were lovely and kind and I'm sure the staff are your vets are looking after your kitty really well.

Sending best wishes for him and he'll be back with you before you know it.

I know it was awful this morning when he was crying for his breakfast and I couldn’t give it to him 😫 I just called the vets for an update and they said he’s only just gone under and to call back at 2! Ahhh that’s ages away

Aww sending love, it’s horrid isn’t it!

My little girl had seven teeth taken out last summer and I hated it! I got a bit emotional dropping her off as it was the first time I’d left her there. Then they called me after a couple of hours to say she had been really distressed when they tried to give her anaesthetic and asked my permission for them to give her something else, I don’t even remember what. She’s normally so soft and cuddly and she’s such a people lover, so the thought of her getting distressed broke my heart and I couldn’t stop crying!

Picking her up in the evening was the best feeling ever, and she was absolutely fine, apart from being dopey after so many drugs.

I’m sure your baby will be just the same, only a couple more hours to go and you’ll have him back home where she belongs, getting lots of extra tickets!

User292 · 14/10/2024 16:14

He is home now, all went well and he didn’t need to have any teeth taken out so now just has a full set of pearly whites!

The only bad thing is that he now has an eye ulcer due to his eyes getting dry and I have to give him eye drops for 5 days. I really don’t know how I’m going to do that. He hates being picked up and touched and messed with, he is a nervous and anxious cat in general and this is really going to stress him out 😔 he’s not going to make it easy for me

I hope they aren't going to change you for treating the eye ulcer! My cat has reoccurring ulcers and it's certainly a challenge.
