I have 3 cats, aged 12.

As you can imagine theres a lot of clean up required and mess.

One of the cats keeps pooping out of the litter tray.
I was hoping with the shape of this one it seems to be tilted downwards, it may help stop this. Im desperate to stop my cat from pooping out the litter box!!

I'm concerned that the new litter tray could be noisy and scare them & also having to change from Catsan to a clumping litter will likely be an issue.

I have previously tried the wooden pellet litter and they wouldn't use it.

Based on the above, what do you think? As its a huge expense for a litter tray.
The website says there is a 90 day trial. Does anyone have experience of this, I'm not sure how easy it would be to return once used. Sometimes companies make it difficult, it also states you pay your own return delivery fees.

I wouldn't trust one after seeing some horrible news stories.

Have you tried top entry or extra high sided trays? Like this.

The litter robot isn't easy to return from what I've read as it doesn't ship from UK.

I have a robot litter tray, I have this one
https://amzn.eu/d/hU40zNJ. I deliberately got this one as it's low to the floor, and has a wide opening. Even when it goes all the way round a cat couldn't get stuck like what happened to the poor cats that got stuck in the other type. I wish I'd got one sooner. I have 2 male 6.5kg cats who I swear shit more then a grown man. It's not perfect but it's a lot better then normal trays.

We have the LR 4, bought it from John Lewis so it’s super easy to get in the UK now. Can even get it on 0% finance if you want to spread the cost! For us it was an upgrade to an older LR model we bought in 2018 whilst living in the US that took some damage during shipping.

I honestly never think about litter trays until it pings my phone saying it needs an empty (about once a week with 2 cats) then it’s literally tie up the bin bag and dump a new one in the tray. Once a month you hit the empty button and give it a wipe down with an anti bac spray and replenish with fresh litter. We have a 12YO and a kitten who are not related and they’re happy sharing it, no accidents. It’s currently stashed in the understairs cupboard and we cut a hole in the door for a cat flap so can’t see it, can’t hear it (the LR4 is so much quieter than the older model) and most importantly cannot smell it! We use Ever Clean clumping litter but anything clumping, non clay and not crystals based eg Sanicat, Catsan etc is fine.

The LR has a ton of safety features, will detect a cat that enters whilst it’s cycling and stop, and doesn’t have a door so I’m not sure it could trap a cat and I don’t think the stories about deaths were LR models. One story I read specifically said that it wasn’t a LR and everything else I’ve seen has been about highlighting the dangers of knock off models from Amazon with the general message being get the LR for safety! As I said we’ve been using their boxes 6 years now and I personally feel v confident about the safety of it.

@InTheRainOnATrain thanks for the info, I'm just worried il buy it and the cats hate it or don't like the change of litter.

If you buy from John Lewis, they don't mention the 90 day trial.

@Scampuss thanks for the suggestion, one of my cats has a bad leg so i think he may struggling jumping into this one. This is the cat pooping out of the box!!

It has a step so it’s quite easy for cats to get in and out. I have a 4 month old kitten who lives it and a very stupid 3 year old cat who goes in when it’s cleaning and hasn’t used it yet. It stops the cycle when a (stupid!) cat enters. I’ve only had mine a week and it’s excellent. Just need to get the older cat using it so I can ditch the litter trays

Ok fair enough! If it helps, Whisker who are the company that make it are easy to deal with, I spent a long time troubleshooting with them after our old one went on the blink post shipping. And you can get an add-on stair attachment if you’re worried about them getting in/out but I don’t think it’s necessary for most- we have a 12YO and a 3MO and both are fine without. And no issues with acceptance even though my older cat basically hates everything 😂
