Cats are such funny creatures, I never realised just how much personality they have and how they are all so different until I got two of my own. My two could not be any further apart. Boy cat is scared of his own shadow, a proper mummy’s boy, very loving and affectionate with me but scared of every other human on the planet. He lives for chicken and cuddles with me on the bed. He is the golden child, very sweet and gentle, never really does anything wrong. Sleeps a lot.

girl cat… very confident and vocal. Extremely playful and will pounce on anything that moves. Will scratch all the furniture and chew through all of the wires. But is also endless entertainment. Likes to sleep inside the wardrobe. Wakes us up at 5am. Gets herself stuck places that she can definitely get down from but forgets she’s a cat and screams for help (like in a tree).

Please all let me know about your cats quirky personalities 😄

I have two 8 year old cats, boy/girl siblings
The very large male cat, prefers to sleep most of the day in the same place, occasionally chooses other parts of the house, cardboard box obsessed and will attempt to sit in an empty egg box if he can. Will happily watch his sister catch a mouse but can't be bothered with the hard work.
The girl is more energetic, zooms around, will play hunt me through the bannisters and will choose a family member to be with for the evening, also a lap cat if you wear jeans.

Felix was the most loving and affectionate Cat ever. Absolutely doted on me, and wanted to be friends with anyone who came the flat. Only tolerated my exh though and he absolutely detested dogs after my ex in-laws late dog ate his cat biscuits in front of him. He wasn't blessed in the brains department though and twice he nearly strangled himself by getting his neck trapped. Thankfully both times I was there and able to free him straight away. He was a little monkey as a kitten and young cat. He destroyed the Venetian blinds by constantly climbing through them and very cleverly stripped off the hideous hallway wallpaper that I hated and my exh loved, by climbing up the wall and sliding back down backwards ripping huge chunks of it off. His favourite game was to climb on top the wardrobe and jump down straight on to my stomach. I soon put a stop the that one. Having an 18lb Cat launch itself on you bloody hurts 😂 he was also the biggest cuddle bug ever. He loved to lay across my chest with his head on one arm and his bum on my other arm and then snuggle into my neck. On a night time he loved to snuggle up next to me and then once he was snuggled up he then liked to be wrapped up in his blanket. The only time he wasn't snuggling up next to me or on me was if i had the central heating on. Whenever that was on I'd be ditched in favour of his other favourite spot. Under the radiator in the conservatory. Wouldn't entertain any other radiator just that one. He also loved cheesy watsits and mayonnaise. In fact he loved pretty much any food and would be forever trying to pinch something. The first night he came back to live with me after I split up with my exh. I cooked myself some steak. One side was slightly fatty so cut the piece in half saving the nicer part for last. Only when I went to eat it, it had gone. Whilst I'd been sat watching tv as I was eating a sneaky little paw had reached up and nabbed the other half of the steak. I looked down to see Felix merrily chomping away. He also had a liking for pizza crusts too. I'd be sat eating a slice pizza only to find Felix nibbling on the crust. In the end I used to cut a crust off for him whilst I ate my pizza in peace. I lost him last year to acute kidney failure but I still talk to his photo every day and sleep with his blanket every night.

Grumpy as anything but also affectionate, on her own terms of course. Full of disdain for all visitors and intensely dislikes workmen. Likes to sleep on my lap or under my chin if I’m reading.

AskingQuestions45 · 08/10/2024 05:30

Yes what is it about workmen? My cat absolutely hates them. She used to love them and watch what they were doing but something has changed. She also hates chainsaw noise , it really upsets her.

My rescue boy is apparently part Maine Coon. He is a gigantic tart, who will floof anywhere and show his belly to the world. He is primarily motivated by food but demands cuddles when full.
The rescue called him 'big friendly boy' and they were exactly right. Incredibly vocal, to the point of strangled howls if food isn't instantly placed in bowl. An absolute darling.

DCat1 is an elderly lady, small and delicate and beautiful. During the Summer months she lies peacefully under her chosen bush surveying the wildlife. In Winter she is to be found curled into a tiny ball in her corner of the sofa. She's refined and rather aloof. Life is lived on her terms and she asks for little.

DCat2 arrived as as traumatised rescue. The years have gone by and slowly, slowly she has learnt to trust and accept love. She now enjoys strokes and is slowly, slowly working her way up to sitting on my lap for more than a second. She seems appreciative of the life I've given her and is always first in line to greet me.

DCat3 thinks he's the tough guy and has a certain swagger. Poorly mannered and always pushes to the front of the food queue. Tries to bully the girl cats but they, especially DCat 1, will take non of his nonsense and he's biffed on the head if he oversteps. Due to visiting neighbours houses, pretending to be lost and starving, he is overweight. This impedes his ability to jump well and he often embarrasses himself by, for instance, falling off a fence he's attempting to jump onto. Yet he's living his best life, mostly stretched out asleep on my bed or occasionally, when she's feeling generous, using DCat1 as a head cushion.

Very hard to describe without causing offence but definitely if she was human you'd say she was neuro diverse. She is very funny though and can be very affectionate. We've had some challenges but it's not her fault, she had a very bad start in life [ RSPCA rescue ]

Spirael · 08/10/2024 08:27

Cat 1: Completely neurotic, hates everyone, scared of everything. Will only tolerate humans briefly at dawn/dusk, in one specific bedroom, and only if they're horizontal. Then demands enough fuss to make up for the rest of the day. Lives underneath the bed the rest of the time, only emerging to eat, yowl her displeasure loudly, and poo on the kitchen floor instead of her litterbox. Is now very old and determined to live forever, just to spite us.

Cat 2: A complete softy, and basically raised my two DD to be his own kittens. Sadly, he passed away a few weeks back due to age related heart failure, but he had a purr that sounded like a hundred aeroplanes taking off over a field full of people mowing the lawn. He liked ambushing people by jumping onto the desk and abruptly headbutting them in the chin - preferably while they were on important work video calls.

Cat 3: A prolific serial killer who has made it her single pawed goal to decimate the local rodent population, and proudly display their disembowelled corpses throughout the house. Beside that, struggles to rub two braincells together and frequently sits out in the rain because she either doesn't realise she's getting wet, or has forgotten how to use her cat flap.

Startingagainandagain · 08/10/2024 09:25

My 2 year old Tortie is stubborn, greedy and cheeky.

She is also a lap cat who sleeps on my feet every night and is very sweet and funny.

She can be quite fearless and does daft things like chasing foxes out of the garden...

Loves bringing me 'presents' in the house: birds, flies and butterflies.

HoppyHop · 08/10/2024 09:28

An ungrateful rescue is how we describe him! He was feral and living off scraps from a pub when the local animal rescue eventually caught him.
He has definitely lived in a house before as had no problem with a cat door/litter tray and has been living with us for 6 years now. Very occasionally he will sit on my knee but is currently punishing me as his favourite person has gone back to university. Love him, and his lord of the manor attitude.

crackofdoom · 08/10/2024 09:40

I refer to Floofy Cat as a sentient cushion- she is a spherical mass of fur, despite being on a permanent diet. She loves cuddles from anyone, friend or stranger. Despite her inoffensiveness inside, she is always ready to defend the honour of the house against all comers- feline or canine- outside.

Stripy Cat is a bit more of a git. She will only be friendly to people she knows, and often expresses her desire for attention by sticking just one claw delicately into a buttock or thigh. She also has an awful lot to say for herself in every situation.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/10/2024 11:00

We've only had our cat six months, and it has been an absolute joy to see his personality emerge and him grow in confidence. He's two in January and had been living in a lady's shed as a stray kitten, so when he came to us he was very unsure, particularly when we started letting him out - I think he was afraid he wouldn't get back. Now he's a bossy boots who loves having his tummy rubbed, being brushed (must happen straight after dinner or there is trouble), going out killing mice, and playing with his toys. Now the weather has turned he LOVES the radiator and sleeping in his bed next to it. He's a little thief and steals food at every opportunity. He also dances!

Our previous girl who we said goodbye to in April was a little diva, and the cuddliest, purriest cat in the world.

I have a feeling the orange menace may cause some damage to the Christmas tree.

Girl cat - super territorial, super anxious, super cuddly psychopath. Prone to ultra violence in defence of her territory - the patio -- but also scared of her own shadow. Would like cuddles all day and gets upset if there are any changes to her routine eg DH and I sit on the wrong chairs.

Boy cat - defers to girl cat for all things in the house. Outside of house - neighbourhood thug. Loud, entitled and opinionated. Unaware that his actions don't need a running commentary. Makes a noise like he is being tortured when he is happy.

Mooche · 08/10/2024 13:32

Aw I have had 3 cats who I loved dearly and were all different.

Cat no 1 - Boy black and white. My first chldhood cat. Got him from a rescue. He didnt like me all that much, was mainly my sister's cat but still loved him. He was greedy, grumpy, chubby and not very affectionate. But he was gorgeous and funny and we all miss him. Lived a good life and died of all age.

cat 2 - this was my cat. A little tortoiseshell. She was like my baby. So affectionate, loving and cuddly. Jealous streak too! Would picl her up and she would put her arms around my neck and lick me. Not a bad bone in her body. Lived to a good old age but very sadly died by being run over which was one of the saddest things I ever went through.

Cat 3 and current cat : Tabby. Very micschevious and wants to pretend to get at the neighbourhood cats, bird and squirrels but actually a bit of a wimp and prefers to take on much smaller things like flies.
Very vocal and playful, Affectionate at times and likes to be in the same room as people.
