To want to WFH for sick pet?

I have a sick pet. I've been to the vet with him. He's lethargic. If he's still ill tomorrow I'm planning to wfh. This might mean a shortage of staff in the office but it's copeable. If he died with no one home, I'd never forgive myself. I know some people wouldn't feel the same way. Am I being unreasonable to want to work from home?

No it would be cruel to leave him. He’s a member of your family. I absolutely would do the same as you. Hope he gets better.

Absolutely not unreasonable OP.

And it sounds like a doable situation so even more reason to.

I hope your pet makes a full recovery. It's awful when they are poorly 🐾

Not in the least. You’ll still be working. I imagine just having your presence will be a comfort to him.

I hope he gets better and soon.

Iwouldratherbemuckingout · 01/10/2024 16:20

Not unreasonable at all. If you were a member of my team I'd insist on it!

MagneticSquirrel · 01/10/2024 16:21

Not unreasonable. I’d also take it as annual leave or unpaid leave if told I couldn’t WFH. Hope your pet feels better soon

Absolutely not unreasonable to work from home. I hope he is ok.

Take the day off if you need to be at home.

K0OLA1D · 01/10/2024 16:22

Not remotely unreasonable OP. Hope they're OK x

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/10/2024 16:23

Probably reasonable as a one-off, as long as the pet isn't a fish or a stick insect.

withalittlebitofhelp · 01/10/2024 16:23

Not in the slightest. Ive taken a/l as well for the same reason (before wfh was particularly prevalent).

BobbyBiscuits · 01/10/2024 16:24

Of course you should WFH. If they are weird about it then I'd just call in sick. Your poor little pet needs you and you've every right to need to be there. X

Depends what the vet said is wrong and how it will impact your work. Have you spoken to your manager to discuss the situation? If they’re fine with it then there’s no problem.

Definitely work from home, I have done this with a very poorly dog (constant seizures) - had to get someone to step in and do a presentation that I was due to do. Work completely understood.

Aw he is. He's my son with fur. I don't have kids but I pour all my love into my pets.
