Proof that cats can understand what we say

I really want a sphynx cat. Dh does not. He hates seeing them all naked and joked about putting veet on the current cat and voila sphynx

Her ears went so far back it was clear she was pissed off by what we were discussing

Oh they understand everything!!

Blusterydaytodaypoohbear · 01/10/2024 09:00

I would warn dh to expect a poo on his pillow tonight..

My mother and I were in the living room one day, casually chatting, when the cat hiccuped. We found it extremely funny, not least because she was a very dignified puss, and had tears running down our faces. She stood up and stalked out of the room with a look on her face. We tried to coax her back but she wasn’t having it. 😳

Soubriquet · 01/10/2024 09:10

I called her a traitor the other day cos she kept abandoning me for my daughter. She then followed me around like a fly on shit and wouldn’t leave me alone as if to say “see. You’re over reacting”

Another proof. I gave the dogs their treats and she of course wants hers. So I told her to go upstairs and I’ll get you your dreamies. She shot up the stairs and waited for me at the top. As I was walking up, I said ok now go in my room and wait…and she did. She shot in there and just sat waiting.

Oh yes. He is pissed off and ordering you to go out immediately

I have shingles at the moment so resting is important. My cat has taken to following me whenever I leave the sofa and meowing at me until I sit down again. I was not aware she had medical training, but...

I once couldn't find Cheddar, so I asked magic to go and find her. And she did. Twice!

Soubriquet · 01/10/2024 09:58

Guess it’s proof cats really do understand us. They just don’t care most of the time

Is that Shady?

outforawalkbiatch · 01/10/2024 11:25

@Allergictoironing yes Smile

Amazing how much like darling dear departed Ollie his expressions are! I think he may be hosting the spirit of Ollie as well as his own spirit.

I found him gazing at me the other day after he had looked disgusted at Paws!

Ours definitely knows words - if I say “brush” he spins in circles with excitement. He also knows bed/beddy-bed-time, lunch, snackies (Dreamies) and drugs (catnip).

He absolutely does not know down, no, or in a minute. 😬

Soubriquet · 01/10/2024 21:53

Oh he knows those words. Just chooses to ignore them

One of mine knows the word yoga because she loves to join me for my morning yoga practice.

She comes flying as soon as I call her, even if she is having her morning poo in next door's garden 😆

The other cats aren't allowed in either according to her; it's just the 2 of us. I'm happy with this - it's tricky enough doing yoga with one cat 'helping', never mind 3 cats 🙀

I don't have a cat flap. Most of the year she comes and goes through my open bedroom window but in winter she has to ask to be let out.

But she also likes me to open the window so she can sit with her bum in the warm and her nose in the cold.

So when she jumps up on the windowsill I ask her, "do you want to go out?" if she walks up and down it means she does want o go out.

I've had this with my cat, one male cat was missing overnight, didn't come in for breakfast either. Mid morning I told Storm to go and get his brother in as I let him out, 10 mins later they both strolled in together!

What beautiful eyes

Squirrelsnut · 02/10/2024 06:28

My Katcha sits with her back to me in a very pointed way if I forget my place.

Lurkingandlearning · 02/10/2024 06:41

My friend’s farm cat was a mouser. Friend and I were talking about her cat’s body count while my cat sat by seemingly paying no attention.

Some days later he came in and presented me with a dead shrew. He obviously didn’t want to be out done in the “good boy” stakes by my friend’s cat.

As that was the first dead mouse he’d ever brought me, I would say he’d definitely been listening. But as it had rigamortis, I suspect he found it rather than caught it

Riverswims · 02/10/2024 07:50

yesterday morning DD woke up and saw our neighbours lovely cat/kitten on the shed roof of another neighbour, DD waved to him and pointed down to our garden, the cat leapt of the shed and under the hedge into our garden to meet DD at the back door! clever boy!

shellyleppard · 02/10/2024 07:57

My cat will sit on the worktop at 11 am and wait for his cat treats 🤣 🤣 every single time. He knows he has to sit first before he gets anything 🤣
