Kitten

I bought a kitten over the weekend. Thought we'd got a girl, (wanted a girl)
I told the seller I wanted a girl and she said she has a girl. Went to collect her, i didn't check sex.
Noticed when got home the poor kitten is covered in fleas and is scratching so much. I have on advice of the local vets bathed the kitten and put on flea drops (vet prescribed) vet also confirmed a little younger then we was told and also a male.
We have fallen in love with the kitten.
The seller has since messaged asking for him back as she is now aware he's a he and not a she.
I've refused and said we are keeping him. To which she shes asked for more money since she was selling the boys for more. Ive refused to pay any extra.
My husband said block her number and ignore.
Anyone dealt with this before? Are they able to take me to court etc?

Back to bed you go. Hopefully you wake up on the correct side of the bed.

You have no idea why I bought from her. I haven't said why.
Yes the kitten is very cute, thank you for saying so.

You bought an animal there is no reason that can justify it

I'll agree to disagree.

My original question was can she take me court. If you don't know the answer maybe you shouldn't comment.

Maybe you should have posted on the legal board. People on the litter tray board tend to worry about the welfare of cats. If you don't like that, tough.

I think you are being very defensive @StrawberryFire. It is irresponsible to buy a kitten "for sale" from a non reputable breeder. It's a lesson learnt and we got our old boy. For a variety of reasons we needed a kitten not least for dd's mental health post a bereavement. However, we took him to the vet before we took him home to get him checked. He was fine and we looked after him and loved him well until he died 15 years later. He was the loveliest boy and had we not bought him someone else would have nd may not have cared for him so well. These kittens shoukd not be bred but having been bred they do need good homes and better to find them early rather than after abandment and weeks or months in a pen at rescue.

Our bought boy was the easiest cat ever. Our two rescue girls were traumatised by a bad start, had been semi feral and took much settling and much patience. They are divine house cats now but it was a hard road. Many may have given up and there first seven months were far from optimal and a non cat experienced family would not have coped with them.

In relation to the money, she has no case. She misrepresented the sex of the kitten and if there is a case it is yours but of course you do not now, quite rightly want to part with the misrepresented kitten.

I hope he has a long and happy life x

And this is why you don't buy kittens from random strangers on the internet without at least doing some basic research 😬

Going forward I would just block her and focus on making sure the kitten is healthy, but please don't buy online from selling sites again - it's just lining the pockets of backyard breeders and kitten farms.

StrawberryFire · 19/09/2024 11:26

Thank you to those who answered my question.
Those who felt the need to attack me, well you have no idea the reason why we bought from her.
Closing this down. Hope you dont experience bullying in real life. Shame on you!!

No, we don’t know, and it’s great that you’re reporting her.

But as a previous poster said, you’d have probably had a different kind of response if you’d posted in Legal rather than in the cat lovers’ board. At least two of us on this thread, probably more, are involved with rescues & see the harm caused by irresponsible backyard breeders like this woman at first hand.

I hope you can see that it’s not personal, and best of luck with your cute kitten.

She sounds like a horrible backyard breeder. Way too young for a kitten to leave its mother and coming to you with parasites just shows no vet checks have been done. It’s he a particular breed or a moggie?

I would block her on all platforms.

I'd report her for a breach of Lucy's Law.

Oh I see it's a zombie thread.

I'd say that's a girl.

Thankyou,, we were thinking boys after looking at numerous google comparisons 🤪
