Advice for a newbie!

I have two new kittens and as a family this is our first time, although my husband and I both came from 'cat families'.

Anyway, I googled some tips for new kitten owners and one thing I came across was using pet-safe cleaning products. What do I need to be aware of? Some of my products don't actually say if they are pet-safe or not. I tend to use a few Method non-toxic products, such as the wood floor cleaner and the all-purpose cleaner. If it's non-toxic, is it safe to think that should be ok?

I do also use Viakal, wood polish, occasionally a spray with bleach for the bathroom, which potentially are more problematic?

I also have a cleaner who comes weekly and uses her own products. What shall I tell her in terms of what she can and can't use?

Advice/pointers/recommendations would be appreciated!

I'll be honest, I've never checked to see if any of the cleaning products I use are pet safe. Just keep the cats out of the rooms that are being cleaned until the products are dried - there's really no need to worry.

Umm you forgot the cat tax ! 😀.

I wouldn't bother with cat safe products, like pp said just make sure the area is dry before letting your overlord back near it.
Don't spray anything in the area if it's likely to land on their fur , so anything like cleaning spray , hair spray, deodorant, perfume etc aa they will wash it off and injest it.

Also don't bother with
Cat beds
Expensive cat toys
Lots of brushes ( unless it's long coated )

Do get
Piles of clean washing that is nothing like their fur colour
Boxes
Paper bags
String
Ping-pong balls
Tin foil balls
Bottle tops

Good luck 😀

Thank you. So to be clear, the issue with cleaning products is only if it comes into direct contact with their skin rather than fumes or particles from the products potentially making them ill?

Thanks for the tips! Quickly realising the cost bed was a waste of money...their favourite sleeping spot is cuddling up together on top of my daughter's barrel of wooden bricks in a cube storage unit

Sent too soon! There must be about 12cm of space between the top of the barrel and the top of the cube unit and their little legs hang over the edge as it's not big enough for both of them 😆 So cute but can't imagine it's more comfortable than the bed I bought them!

I would try to keep them out of the area your cleaning esp if the chemicals are strong or strong smelling just to reduce them breathing it in but i wouldn't be over concerned if they did.
My thug cat would always stare at the steam coming out of the mop bucket and try to catch it !

The only cat rule when it comes to where they sleep is there is no place that's out of bounds .

I've never bothered about checking either. I just shut them out of the room if necessary for a while.

My only concern with cleaning products is them getting it on their feet/fur and licking it off, or having it sprayed too close to them, but cats are hardy little things and most household cleaners should be perfectly fine for them to be around :)
