When did your kittens have the run of the house?

We adopted two kittens a week ago, they've settled in well (they're 10 weeks).
Currently they're secured in the front room, they are definitely curious when the door opens!

When did you let yours roam freely around the home?

After about twelve hours.

I can’t remember keeping them contained really. My first one I slept downstairs with for the first couple of nights, the second stayed with DS in the spare room but it was days, rather than weeks before they roamed.
We did have a few fun games of hunt the kitten though.

Our original ones had their stuff in the little office room. With a coffee table 'barricade' to keep ddog out. Took them a week to make it to the kitchen - to her food bowl!! She wasn't amused!! After a month they shared her bed....
Current dkitten didn't leave dd's room for a year! Big room and kitten's choice.. Took until 6 months to reach the 2kg for neutering!! We have different ddogs and not quite sure she wouldn't have been scared to death! All get on now though. Took 4 years!!

After about twelve hours.

That long 😅

Yes I'm worried about losing them or getting trapped somewhere.

It's like having toddlers again!

One of them is the runt and she's currently 600g and can fit in my hand so she's the one I'm most worried about.

We only really kept ours contained overnight or if we were out, otherwise they were free to be wherever we were!

After three or four days - but that was only because I wanted to ensure our big cats were ok with them first.

I don't think I ever did 🤔 was I meant to?!

As long as they know where the litter tray and food is I just let them explore.

As soon as they were observably litter trained :) We did open up one area at a time over a couple of days though, and we were already catproofed in terms of not having accessible holes in the infrastructure that they could get lost in (no way to get to the back of the kitchen cabinets, under the bath -> under the floorboards etc).

We did have to confine ours to one room, except under supervision for almost a month!! Got 2 kitties at 3 months old.

But - there was a very good reason for that. We have 2 dogs. One has a very high prey drive. She has lived with an old cat before and our old cat ruled the roost.

But, when the kittens came, she was far too fascinated by them and could, very easily, have harmed them.

It took a full month to get her calmed down. Fortunately, we got young enough kitties that weren't scared of her and after a bit of growling and hissing from them, the rules were established.

Full run of the house by 4 months. Now they are 6 months and go outside too.
