Right, tell me I’m not going mad please

We’ve got two young cats, both affectionate, chatty little fellas. Lots of meows and chirrups in the humans’ direction.

But sometimes, they “answer” a question with a single lick of the lips. So for example, when one trots in from the garden I’ll say, “hello, have you had fun?” - and I’ll get an upright tail & a single lip lick.

This is a form of communication, right? Google just bangs on about possible illness, but I reckon it’s “yep”, or “yep and now feed me”.

I think I agree. It's definitely feed me.

mine also licks her lips if you gently tap her on the nose
you are not mad -cats are mad it is their natural state

Thanks both.

I’ve just tested it by asking them to lick their lips if they’re hungry. Nothing. You’re right, cats are indeed mad.

My little love used to do this occasionally when I spoke to him! I thought he was either sort of 'copying' or 'mirroring' my mouth movement, or he couldn't be bothered to meow!

My cat cannot be bothered to meow- she just opens her mouth and mimes it no noise! Mad
