My cat keeps peeing on my bed!

Over the last few days, one of our two cats keeps peeing on our bed. She pooed on it 5 days ago which was completely my fault as I cleaned the litter box and accidentally put it the wrong way round so she couldn’t get in. It’s daily now though. I know which one it is as I caught her red handed last night. I didn’t want to shout at her as thought she might wee everywhere.

I have tried feliway spray, plug ins, but it’s happening everyday. We are going on holiday next week and think we will have to shut our bedroom door as I can’t let the cat sitter deal with it (or come back to a week of urine on the bed)!

Any advice, I’m desperate!!

wish i knew what to do but i had the same issue with my sofa nothing worked all i could do was swap it for a leather sofa that deter him from peeing on it.But if i leave a blanket on there he still pees

Big issue with peeing is if the area still smells of pee they will pee there. But once they have repeatably peed in the same place they will always go there.Only thing you can do is lock them out

Thanks, I feel a bit bad for them as they like to sleep on the chair in our room. They went through a phase of this before and I can’t remember how we stopped it.

It was the brazen cheek of her looking me in the eye mid flow and peeing all over the bed! Luckily we had a waterproof sheet over it as a lesson learnt from the other day. Unfortunately I had to wash that last night so they did it again today on the clean duvet 😭

How old are they and do they go outside?

Spomb · 27/08/2024 18:35

Hi, they are 7 and don’t go outside. It’s just one of them doing it. They have a large clean litter box that’s changed often. They have regular check ups and the vet always says how healthy and shiny they are, so I don’t think they are ill.

Maybe she’s got wind of us going away next week and is protesting?!!

Ideally for two cats you need at least three litter trays - so I would try buying more to start with.

But long-term it may be that you need to look at their territory - unfortunately many cats aren't happy indoors and will show that by peeing inappropriately. one of ours did and the only solution was to let him out.

Lay aluminium foil on the bed. Your cat will hate it. I was advised this many years ago when I had the same issue. Sadly my poor cat had a brain tumour which is what led to the behaviour.
Foil on the bed did redirect him to the litter tray though.

Get rid.

Thanks, they’re sisters and they’ve never really had a problem with them fighting. We tried them outside, but they hated it (they are generally quite scared cats, we have had them since kittens, they were rescue). They got attacked when they went out as youngsters and since then won’t go anywhere near the back door or outside.

I will try the tin foil trick and use more trays, although it gets cleaned twice a day and is never sodden, we do leave out three when we go away just in case so will use them.

i hope it’s a short lived thing again, but I will take them to the vets when we get back for a check up just in case. Thanks for all the advice!
