Looks like a moggy with some Maine coon maybe .. time will tell if they get big and have big floofy ears

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 25/08/2024 08:01

It looks like there’s some Maine Coon in there but unlike dogs, most cats in the UK aren’t specific breeds - sorry if I’m telling you something you already know! Gorgeous, whatever it is. I’d go with Floofy Tabby.

Strathfan · 25/08/2024 08:01

It’s a moggy! Gorgeous 🥰

Ours is v similar.

jen337 · 25/08/2024 08:22

Thanks for the answers, yes gorgeous cat, but sadly not ours!

Looks like one of mine and he is a moggy

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/08/2024 08:36

Classic moggy - best kind of cat 😻.

sashh · 25/08/2024 08:52

It's a Beautiful.

Is that a breed? It should be.

Google image search says Main Coon or Norwegian Forrest cat.

theDudesmummy · 25/08/2024 08:56

Definitely quite a lot of Maine Coon, I had a pedigree one and her face and tail were exactly like that (except she was ginger).

dementedpixie · 25/08/2024 08:56

Doesn't look big enough to be a maine coon
It's a floofy moggy

theDudesmummy · 25/08/2024 08:57

My Maine Coon was the runt of a big litter and was always very small.

theDudesmummy · 25/08/2024 08:58

She was also super grumpy, whereas they are supposed to be friendly! ( I still miss her even though she has been gone for many years).

TheForgetfulCat · 25/08/2024 09:05

A) beautiful.

B) could be a Siberian, or part Siberian. This is one of ours.

Looks like a classic Fluffy Tabby to me. Why?

RickiRaccoon · 25/08/2024 09:13

No particular breed but long-haired tabby and white.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 25/08/2024 09:16

She's just a long haired moggy.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 25/08/2024 09:33

Agree with pps this is the classic tabby moggy cat.

jen337 · 25/08/2024 10:55

Thanks. We visited a cat cafe as we’re thinking of getting a cat at some point, and we were particularly impressed by this one in terms of its appearance and behaviour. It was quite different from the others so though it might be some kind of breed, I know zero about cats! Good news then as sounds like this is probably quite a common cat to rescue/inexpensive cat to buy

The vast, vast majority of cats out there are moggies and rightly so - moggies are the best cats! Generally very healthy with little/no behavioural problems.

They do vary considerably in looks, colour and size though - so if you like the look of a certain type of cat, maybe have a look in rescue to see if there's one that fits the bill. Be warned though, our big fluffy cat sheds A LOT Grin

Cat cafes quite often have information about their animals - might be worth asking them.

Fully agree with a PP who commented about long haired mogs shedding though. We live knee deep in fur.

Ours drops it just walking around - he also likes lying and rolling around in the sun, and when he gets up, he inevitably leaves a pile of cat shaped fur behind him! I've never known a cat shed so much, and he gets brushed most days too!

We did ask but they said they didn’t know, obvious now considering it’s not any particular breed. Sheddings is something I’m concerned about, but when we stroked this one I didn’t notice any hair coming off it compared to some of the others, is it a seasonal thing or do they shed year round?

OP posts:
sunsetsandboardwalks · 25/08/2024 11:24

It depends on the cat.

Some shed constantly eyes fat black cat others shed seasonally, or depending on the weather. There's no way to guarantee it either way.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/08/2024 11:27

I'm afraid ours seem to shed all year round.
You do get used to it 🤣

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/08/2024 11:34

Our fat black mog is also particularly guilty of constant shedding as is his grey sister. Just as well we love them 🤣.

I agree, I don't see any of the distinctive features of a maine coon or Norwegian forest cat.

Beautiful though
