Cat gone off her food

DCat (F, 6yo) has suddenly gone off her food. She returned from a couple of weeks at the cattery this week and on day one she was fine, then suddenly seemed to lose her appetite. She seems okay, a low bit key perhaps, and initially I suspected a hairball, but none has been forthcoming. I'm not sure what to do. She is usually really greedy and bolts down whatever I put out for her, but this is now day three when she's turned her nose up at her usual food (Applaws wet food + biscuits at bedtime).

I know, from experience, that if I take her to the vet with something vague they just say 'I can't see anything obviously wrong' and bill me a vast amount of money, so in the absence of anything other than loss of appetite I'm a bit loathe to take her. But what now? Try different food?

She's probably sulking over being sent to the cattery. As long as she's drinking and seems ok in herself I wouldn't be rushing her to the vets yet. Especially not on a bank holiday weekend!
Maybe try some dreamies or those creamies sachets see if they tempt her.

Buy a different food.

When Breadcat's appetite drops I shove a load of licki licks down her so at least she gets moisture. Is there any treat food like roast chicken or tuna that she might eat.
You are probably being punished

Right - different food it is! I texted the owner of the cattery, who had her on Purina Gourmet Gold, so I'll try that.

Definitely try the food. But keep an eye on her weight too. My cat stopped eating and within a few days had lost a third of his body weight. He had a lot of fur so it wasn’t immediately obvious. He was very, very ill and sadly didn’t survive. We never found out exactly what was wrong as he was too poorly for surgery but suspected a mass in his abdomen. It was awful.

I only worry if my cat refuses the yoghurt treats.

She stops eating her food at the drop of a hat, goes off brands, huffs if I go away (she is well looked after), etc etc.

she is off her normal food at the minute - I bout fish prices for fish pie - seems she will eat them! Or marks and Spencer’s sliced chicken.

but if she refuses her fancy treats I take her to the vet.

Right - found out that the cattery lady gave her Purina Gourmet Gold so went and got a few tins to see if she likes it. She wolfed it down! This is a win on two fronts 1) the cat is eating and 2) PGG is significantly cheaper than Applaws!

Thanks everyone!

That’s great, really pleased to hear that x

Sorry I didn't respond to your post @BreakfastClub80. I'm really sorry to hear about your cat. Something serious has occurred to me and I will definitely keep an eye on her. In the time we've had her (she was a rescue), she's never been off her food before, so I know it could not just be a new fussiness Flowers
