Indorex flea spray tips

Cat has fleas. I've treated her with frontline and ordered indorex for the house. I was wondering, is one bottle enough? I have four bedroom house with conservatory. I assume you have to do whole of floor area? Do you keep windows open or closed? What about my bed etc?

Is it frontline from the vet or frontline from the counter? The latter is useless IME

Allnewtometoo · 21/08/2024 23:06

I'd order 2. And get sone better flea stuff fir the cat (advocat from the vets).

Hoover thoroughly then spray all of the floors/skirtings/round sofas etc. Wash your bedding anf cats bedding. Leave for a week, (don't hoover in the meantime) then repeat. Repeat again after another week. (This is if you have fleas in the house, not just on the cat)

Littletreefrog · 21/08/2024 23:07

You need more indorex. You need to do all floors and soft furnishings multiple times. Hoover everywhere before spraying as the vibrations from the hoover cause dormant eggs to hatch.

GuessingGownaGoGo · 21/08/2024 23:11

My cat had a really bad case of fleas this summer. I gave him 3 lots of Frontline plus and indorexed the house every week for a month.

Still had fleas.

The only thing that shifted them was the prescription flea tablet from the vet.

Charliecatpaws · 21/08/2024 23:14

When we had this problem last September we used at least 6 cans of indorex for the same size house. Sprayed all carpets multiple times, all bedding was washed on a hot wash and any blankets and fleeces. Vacuum several times a day for about two weeks. I also bought flea collars for our cats online sorry I can't remember the name off the top of my head but they cost about £30 each. Only 1 of our 3 cats had fleas and luckily was happy to be combed several times a day with a nitrogen comb for about 2 weeks until none were found.

Good luck it was a very stressful experience

Charliecatpaws · 21/08/2024 23:15

OMG a nit comb 🤦🏼‍♀️

Beamur · 21/08/2024 23:17

Even if you have used the weaker Frontline (it might not be very effective) don't repeat a dose until the end of the month unless a vet advises you to.

Scampuss · 21/08/2024 23:25

An effective spot on is the most effective part of flea control, so please see your vet about getting a better topical treatment.

I've only ever needed one round of Indorex, spraying the edges of all rooms, beds/mattresses and any cat beds and soft furnishings the cat uses that can't easily be washed.

Put a flea collar in your hoover bag to kill off any you hoover up.

It shouldn't wreck the sofas but maybe spray on a non visible bit first to test. I cant remember the rule with windows it should say on the can.

Thanks so much

I opened all the windows, the stuff smells rank. Spray the living shit out of everything - furniture (never marked mine but are cotton not leather/velvet) , cat beds, carpets, rugs, edges of all rooms cats go in. Wash everything that can be washed. DD is allergic to flea bites, she looked dreadful for weeks, it was horrendous. You have my sympathy.

fraya123 · 22/08/2024 07:53

Yep whole house. The eggs can be on any surface the cat has been on. Once the cats have been treated effectively (I would ask the vet if they can have anything more than you have already given them) they will become walking flea killing machines as when a flea bites them it will be poisoned but thats only mature fleas. Flea eggs can lie dormant on surfaces for years hence all te hoovering because hoovering causes vibrations that makes them hatch into fleas so they can be killed.

@fraya123 I became a bit obsessive about fleas after we emergency fostered a 6 week old kitten who was invested with them. She nearly died through blood loss. It seems a mammoth task but you will beat it.

fraya123 · 22/08/2024 14:15

@Littletreefrog

Sorry for bombarding you with questions today. I've sprayed whole house a few hours ago. When should I next hoover? Shall I do again later or wait till tomorrow? Xxx

I would hoover first thing in the morning then every day for the next 7 days.

LuckysDadsHat · 22/08/2024 15:03

All that you are doing to the house is a bit pointless without treating the cat with a decent flea treatment and Frontline isn't a good flea treatment. It became ineffective quite a few years ago. Get to the vets and get a better treatment.

ChangeTheProphecy · 22/08/2024 15:12

I have a 4 bed and we had fleas last year. I used about 1.5 cans and then resprayed a week later. You need to make sure you get under the sofa etc so you do need quite a lot.

Also agree with others about getting prescription flea treatment from the vet.

Will do this if they don't go. I didn't know frontline was rubbish. Did you repeat week after because you saw fleas again?

Open windows as it stinks

Vacate rooms after spray

I washed bedding on hot wash. Then sprayed all areas animal slept since sofas and carpets areas several times over 4/6 weeks.

Plus using the spot on from vets I do think it was the indorex that broke the cycle tho. Did it a few times to catch any adults that newly hatched.

There are some treatments you can use straight after Frontline (different active ingredient) but you need to check with the vet. I wouldn't be waiting weeks before treating again as you will get into a cycle of the flea again and again.

TossieFleacake · 22/08/2024 18:05

Please check with your vet before administering any further flea treatment within the same month ... too much flea treatment can seriously harm your animal.
Even if the first one was ineffective.
