dry food

Hi,

I have 2 new kitties. Both spayed females and born in Feb so still young. One of them much prefers dry food and is noticeably smaller than her chonky piggy sister. I want to give her a good quality dry food and am looking for suggestions. Currently eats James Wellbeloved but have no idea if that's any good or not?

Thanks in advance

I fed my two Lily’s Kitchen as it is grain free and has the highest protein content.

However I’ve since transitioned them off dry completely as even grain free has substitutes like potatoes that cats just don’t need. They are obligate carnivores.

I now feed them katkin, mjamjam, and animonda carny which are all high quality wet foods (pure meat). I thought transitioning would be hard but it was relatively painless.

Scrumbles is a good dry food and not too expensive - mine absolutely love it. It's also small so easy for kittens.

We have an 18 month old rescue who has been with us since April. He has Royal Canin dry, with a 50g pouch of Sheba twice a day. He doesn’t eat all the Sheba but I am fine with that as he does drink. our previous cat got most of her liquid from wet food unless it was a puddle on top of the wheelie bin.

We tried him with Scrumbles and Katkin per pp but he wouldn’t touch either, and have a freezer full of raw cat meat. (I mixed the Scrumbles with RC but he left all those little round balls.) I thought Blink - wet - was a win but stopped that after he wolfed it and puked it back up. Everything else he licks the gravy or jelly off and doesn’t eat the meat.

He loves to break into the green kitchen waste caddy and eat bin during the night though.

Mine started off on Katkin, but as a poster upthread said, I ended up with a freezer full that he wouldn’t touch that I had to sell on - at a huge loss. He is now on royal canin dry, which he loves, and refuses to touch anything else, believe me I have tried! He drinks a lot which I am pleased about.

The funny thing is that for such a fussy cat he is the easiest cat I have ever had to feed medication to. I put a tablet on my hand with a couple of dreamies and whoosh, it has gone!

Mine is on James wellbeloved and I think it's fairly decent
He also liked purr and miaow

Disclaimer I would much rather he ate high meat content wet food or raw but he would rather eat dry. After a stand off we have come to an agreement
He eats one pouch of crap wet food a day while glaring at me, and then decent quality dry food Grin

Check out purizon on zooplus. My cat absolutely adores it.

FrillyKnickersAndNoFurCoat · 21/08/2024 13:24

I feed mine grain free Wild Freedom dry cat food from Zooplus. They also like Purizon also from Zooplus but it is smellier than WF.

Purina one here. They love it.

I feed thrive dry and encore dry. Both are grain free and high meat

Thankyou everyone. Some good ideas to try. I did try Katkin on a previous cat and absolute refusal ensued. Offered it to the other two and no one would eat it.
