I'm a holiday pet carer and I arrived at a house today to find one of the cats sneezing with thick yellow discharge coming out of its nose.
I contacted my boss who said the owner had mentioned this about the cat, but that it happens from time to time and not to worry. It has been vaccinated apparently, but I know there was a shortage of vaccines last year as I had to wait for mine to get done.
I have three cats at home, including one senior and one asthmatic, all vaccinated and they don't go out of the garden into the community.
What are the chances this is just an allergy? What can I do to minimise spread if it is cat flu? I've never had a cat with respiratory problems - apart from the lungs with the asthma - so I don't know what the different discharges look like.
I'm really worried, but have to go back for the next four days. I showered as soon as I got home and left my equipment and overall in my car. My shoes are in a plastic bag and I used alcohol gel on my hands, cleaned phone etc. I'm not a germaphobe, but I'd be really upset if it's flu and my cats catch it. I feel sorry for the poor cat as well.
