Pet Insurance - would you recommend your insurer?

My 3 year old cat is insured with Petplan on a liferime policy, originally taken out when she was a kitten in 2021 for £160. The premiums have gone up each year, and this years renewal notice is for £276! (I’ve never made a claim btw). Cover for vets fees is only £4000 pa too, which is probably not really enougjh.

Does anyone have insurance they would recommend? Thanks!

Tesco have been brilliant with my £26k of claims.

I second Tesco - they've been great.

Many Pets have been great with Elton after a shaky start when they took ages to pay a claim

LostCats · 18/08/2024 12:43

We’ve been with Petplan for years now and I actually would recommend them. The covered for life has been amazing now my precious old boy is getting unwell.

Petplan may be expensive but I certainly got my money's worth with my 19 year old late cat. Car accident at 6 necessitating surgery and probably 3 years of treatment at end of life.

lovemycbf · 18/08/2024 12:56

I second staying with petplan although expensive they paid a lot of money out for my little dog up to her death aged 13
My policy was £80+ per month but I claimed £200+ per month for years and years without problems

Thanks everyone. I have used a comparison site today and there are cheaper policies out there with much higher cover limits (although higher excess too).

I’m a bit worried my Petplan policy only covers up to £4000, so may leave me short if I have to claim.

Tesco is looking like a possibility.

Anyone insure via Co Op?

I'm also with many pets
Have used tesco before as well
Make sure it's a lifetime policy

I have a £4k Petplan policy. They paid out the full value of the policy, without quibble, just three months after we’d taken it out. I do wish we’d insured our cat for the higher level of claims (the total vet bill was £6.5k), but I can’t fault Petplan.

Iamme2023 · 18/08/2024 15:40

We're with manypets, last year they took about 3 months to pay out although this year it was "only" about 5 weeks, but each year our policy goes up a huge amount this year it went from £60 for 4 cats to £100 for 3 cats (one passed away).
We moved from petplan as it was cheaper and I really wish we'd not but as out cats now have pre existing conditions we are stuck with manypets

spikeandbuffy24 · 18/08/2024 15:53

Tesco have been great before when I've had to claim
Think I have 10k worth of cover

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/08/2024 07:50

We were with Petplan for Harry and I couldn't fault them. They paid out thousands for his various ailments over the years

sunnshine · 19/08/2024 07:53

Our cat is older now and has some ongoing health problems. PetPlan have been brilliant throughout his life. I don’t think your policy is expensive. I would stick with PP.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 19/08/2024 07:57

We are with Manypets. They are taking longer to pay out. Also costs an arm and a leg. Thanks to pre existing conditions we are stuck with them.

We have 4 cats and two different insurers - PetPlan and Agria. I would recommend both, it is simple to make a claim and they have always paid promptly.

If you change to a cheaper insurer, check what is covered. Agria recently paid a large dental bill for one of our cats. Some insurers do not cover dentals.
