Scared cat

We moved house Thursday and moved the cat before the delivery men arrived etc, put him in one of the bedrooms and kept it closed off until the movers left.

He stayed under our bed but did come down a little bit last night but today he's been hiding up there all day and only eaten breakfast. We've kept his litter and food/water upstairs. I'm feeling a bit worried about him.

Any tips?

I've just given him a few treats and he wolfed them down and ran to get them so he must be hungry.

Give him time!!

a lot of people day to keep them in one room
for a week, I never did that with mine (my boy would have been a clawing, howling mess!!)

just keep his litter tray and bed etc upstairs & he'll soon feel safe enough to explore.

have you spent much time in there with him today. I'd lie on the bed reading MN and just keep quietly talking to him until he came up for a cuddle and would give him lots of treats.

Feliway. Get a plug-in for the room the cat is currently using, and the room spray version for everywhere else.

Just needs time. He needs to learn all the unfamiliar smells. Spend some time with him and he'll start being reassured.

It’s till early days for him to settle into somewhere new, even though his family and furniture are the same.

My malecat -we’ve had male and female for five years now- gets in a lather if I move the coffee table to clean, god knows what would happen if we moved house 🙀

Thank you for all your comments, he needs more time so I put his food back in our bedroom and gave him lots of cuddles after I'd got the kids to bed.

I woke in the night and he was coming out one of the boys bedrooms so that's a good sign.

Cats are incredibly territorial and you have on his eyes 'snatched him away from his territory'. It takes times and feliway to help them settle and get used to the new norm.
So cats are more open to change than others so it can take some longer.

It can take weeks for cats to settle into a new environment so try not to worry too much :)
