Insurance?

Hi! We’re about to get a kitten and have been looking at insurance. Trouble is, we’ve no idea what type of cover we might need!

Can anyone help with ideas on fee limits, what a good amount of excess is, if it should be lifetime cover or not. Also, which companies are good and helpful and which we should definitely avoid!?

Anyone ever had it through Sainsbury’s?

Little dinky dot cat will be indoor with access to a catio as she’s more suited to an indoor lifestyle.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I have indoor cats. They are insured with Tesco. I've had loads of claims. And they e been great. Definitely get life time cover, and the highest limit you can afford. Don't let her being an indoor cat kill you into a false sense of security. My first two indoor cats ran up bills of £25k

Think we went with Tesco the first year with a lifetime policy. Was a big increase in price at renewal so we switched to Many Pets also with a lifetime policy. Our policy covers up to £15k each year.

Make sure you get dental cover! I've just had a £700 bill for my 1 year old and there will be more to follow 😫 Hindsight is a beautiful thing!

You want a lifetime policy with the highest level of cover you can afford, and one that includes dental care.

And yes, I agree with @Toddlerteaplease about indoor cats being just as expensive, if not more so sometimes when it comes to vet bills!

Thanks guys! I’ll check Tesco out and be sure to cover the max we can. I’ve known of friends’ indoor cats that had horrendous unforeseen accidents in the home and require surgery, so I’ll definitely do the most I can. And thanks for the heads up about dental, I didn’t realise that it would be separate!

I think the only plan that covers dental is PetPlan. It's a cost benefit analysis because it's very expensive. £100pcm covering 80% of costs for my old boy once he reached 10.

My new cats (he died v suddenly aged 14) are about £35pcm lifetime cover with Many Pets. It will go up. When it hits £100pcm territory I'll stop it but I have significant funds.
