Stroking dcat earlier and felt something hard in her fur, I did apply frontline a few days ago so it could possibly be a dead tick but I have never seen one before irl (dead or alive)
It is attached to the skin, sorry pic isn’t great as she wouldn’t keep still

Is this a tick?

Impossible to see I'm afraid.
Can you pull it off and then take a picture - wriggly cat?

dementedpixie · 14/08/2024 17:33

Can't see the picture properly. Could be a tick or a scab

Tickineck · 14/08/2024 17:37

Very wriggly cat!
I haven’t tried to pull it yet as I worried if it was a tick I would cause more damage if I didn’t get it out properly (I know in humans it can cause Lyme disease)
is it safe to pull?

Ok panic over, tried gently pulling and it came out, it was another animals nail! Guessing the neighborhood cats as they’re usually hissing at each other!

Just watch for infection now

Just saw your update, but just so you know for the future have a Google. Ticks are horrible things and the longer they are allowed to stay on the body the more likely they are to transmit disease, so it's important you know what one looks like in case you, your family, or your pets are bitten.

Thank you everyone

Glad it was just a nail.
You can get cheap little tick removers from the pharmacist so if you do get one you can lift it off easily, as pp said, with ticks the quicker you get them off the better.
