Cat has been missing for four days- when to give up hope?

He just went out as normal one morning and didn’t come back…

The kids are distraught.

I'm distraught.

His sister couldn’t give a shit and is enjoying the extra attention.

I’ve done all the looking, asking neighbours, local social media etc., but nothing. We’re due to go on holiday next week and it just all feels so sad. We love him so much.

Not sure what I’m asking for really, just thinking about when to stop hoping he’ll come through the cat flap 😞

I've just read through your posts held so tensely OP, and actually physically jumped out of my chair when I saw your update! I'm so glad he's home safe!! 💕💕💕

Yay!! So glad the wanderer has returned!

CatChant · 13/08/2024 15:10

Wonderful news! And what a handsome fellow.

ToplessWordle · 13/08/2024 18:17

Very glad he's safely home!

Ours went missing for a week and ended up in someone else's house. They'd seen her pic on FB and make contact. She was a couple of streets away.

That's brilliant news! Our git of a cat regularly goes wandering and scares me - or did. Now I just figure that we have one full time cat and one part timer. The first time he disappeared for days, he'd moved into a sheltered housing/care home. They were all fussing over him and the kitchen staff were giving him scraps. He definitely didn't want to come home ...

So pleased he's home. They're such devils aren't they, causing all that worry. Glad your family is complete once again.

Look who came back for breakfast at 3am…

wonderful! so happy for you! Dont let him out again, he may well be in the process of moving on. Our cat went missing for longer and longer times, then one day it became permanent,

So pleased to see this update!

My very lazy, very docile then 10yo house cat went missing for 10 days two summers ago. I’d totally given up hope. Then one morning she was just back on her bed inside - looking completely unbothered and entirely unblemished by her excursion! Still no idea where she was all that time. Hmm

Oooooooooh, I LOVE it when I'm right! 😆

I said he'd be back within a week!!! (Less than a day it turns out!) Grin

Great news @Usernamenotavailabletryanother 😍

OMG cats are such maggots!!

I was thinking of my cat that disappeared a year ago, after reading this thread. Her sister is still at home but is known for staying away for days on end. Both are chipped.

So I got a load of missed calls from a vets 8km away, they had just scanned my missing cat, she's been living with some bloke for 3 months and he brought her in for a health check. I'll have to see if she will actually come back to us. No clue how her sister will react.

LammasEve · 14/08/2024 18:28

Came on here to offer encouragement and am so glad he's home. I assume he's grounded for the next 15+ years? 🙂

We've had a couple of wanderers, they're such a worry!

Greyrockin · 14/08/2024 19:11

So happy for you OP. When I moved my cat escaped from the first floor window and went missing for days. I was so worried, put posters out, went out every night, on Facebook groups and everything. In desperation I went to church to light a candle and pray for his return (I'm a lapsed Catholic) and that was the night he came home, skinny and grubby 😊

He made friends with a local stray a few years later so I took the stray to the vets to be checked out, with a view to adopting him, and it turned out he was chipped and had been missing for 6 years, and his home was only a couple of streets away. His owners were thrilled to have him back, he'd run away from bully cats and just completely lost his way.
