2 rescue fluffies coming to our house today

Ooooh I'm bursting with excitement.

We pick up 2 rescue 8 week old kittens today.

We lost our beautiful 15 year old a few weeks ago and miss her so much. We all decided that kittens will help 😆

Their pregnant mum was abandoned and they are part of a 4kitty litter.

Both girls and quite shy at the moment apparently so need a lot of socialising and holding (what a terrible shame for us to have to cuddle them all the time 😂😂)

Any hints on success in introducing them to our older cat?

Exciting! Have they arrived yet?
In terms of intros we kept incomers separated for a fairly short period, then did controlled introductions when we were around. Kept them separated at night until everyone was comfortable with each other (usually a few weeks).
Your older cat might be grumpy for a while (one of ours once took three months to get over new kittens) but they adjust eventually.

They are so tiny and timid. Not eating anything yet so just left them alone to settle quietly

Just adorable. ❤️❤️❤️

They ventured out from under the sofa whilst we were all asleep, and ate some food. No poo tray action yet though.

Sat with them early this morning and enticed them out with a toy. They had a little explore then went back into hiding. They are like little ninjas creeping round the edges of the room.

They talk to each other when out exploring. It's very cute. Very.

Our existing cat watched them from a distance through the glass and had a sniff through a door last night. No hissing from either. We did a lot of scent transfer yesterday too.

Just going back to see them again. Eeep !

My adult kids are SO excited 😆. My son commented yesterday that he thought he might 'die of cute' when the littlest one mewed at him. ❤️🥰.

Morning - advice please oh wise cat-tamers. I know it's early days but the old cat and new cats are still not accepting each other.

We have
Done scent transfer
Kept feeding apart
Kept kittens in one room
Done face to face introductions - holding big cat and keeping her higher than littlies. That went ok

Yesterday at breakfast we opened the door and littlest one when full arched back, hissing at big cat (so brave!) and big cat obvs not impressed. She's been jumpy ever since 😟

So, do we continue to keep separate and just jet then bed in, or attempt more controlled, supervised encounters? Should we let littlies roam a bit more or keep them confined to their room?

I'm not sure what to do next for the best.

Get some feliway friends and take it very slowly. It's still very early days. Separate them again and try some scent swapping. Then let them see each other from a distance. I'm 3 months today since getting a new cat and it's a very slow process.

I want to kiss them. Mmm the big cat will have had its nose put out of joint for sure but fingers crossed it settles down. I’d LOVE a kitten but my boy cat would pack his bags; I know he would x

Fluffy update.

They had first vaccinations and were a bit out of sorts yesterday so hoping they are back on form today.

Introductions getting there. They can now eat either side of a door without hissing or reacting. They were on the same room yesterday (their choice) and no reactions so that's progress.

The littlies are so strongly bonded they chirrup for each other if they lose sight of one another. V cute.

They do run away from me all the time still so I'm hoping that won't be a lasting thing.

More cute pics

The older one is on my bed purring her heart out as I type this.

Just gorgeous! Looks like the black and white one is a bit more relaxed than the tortie-looking one?
Hope you post soon with news that they are climbing all over you and won't leave you alone!
(Glad your older one is purring too!)

Oh my goodness. 😍😍😍

It sounds like you're doing all the right things. A bit of hissing is fine - it's establishing boundaries. In my (albeit limited experience) it's a bit harder introducing kittens to a resident female cat. It took mine a long time and they've never become friends but do tolerate each other.

Deathraystare · 18/08/2024 15:01

Sounds like you are doing everything right. To be honest when I brought home a stray when our first cat was around I don't think we did anything, just let them get on with it! They were never going to be bezzie mates but did often sleep in the same area and there wasn't much hissing.
