Sleep advice 4 month old kitten

My kitten was sleeping well for a couple of weeks in living room alone - but has become a lot livelier the past two weeks. He’s fine if I’m up to 11.30ish but I have been tired the past couple of nights and going to bed 9.30. I have let him sleep with me but he wakes me up scratching and nipping.

Tonight I tried leaving him in hallway with access to a few rooms so he can continue to amuse himself rather than one room but he is scratching and meowing at DCs bedroom door.

suggestions very welcome! Do I just close him in living room again with all his things. It’s a small room.

We have to shut our cat in the utility room at night for this reason, she has a bed in there, her food and water and a cat flap with access to the garden. Over the years I’ve had times where I’ve felt sorry for her and let her sleep on my bed but she is so so annoying that I soon regret it!

Yes i briefly thought the sleeping on my bed was sweet but it ruined my sleep. I might need to toughen up!!

We’ve tried playing a bit more during the day but today was busy so we had less time for him and I don’t think he has burnt off enough energy!

Mine 2 rescue kittens had the run of the house. They soon settled down

I had to put little cat in his own room at night until he was 6 months old
He's nearly 17 months old now and sleeps quietly on my bed near my feet until I'm ready to get up. Big cat who's 6 sleeps next to my bed on his cat sofa. Both are well behaved until getting up time.

Another dkitten would keep him happy.

Yes you need another one😀

floppybit · 03/08/2024 23:50

He needs a little kitten friend

I tried again but have just evicted him. He’s now downstairs.

Having two children, I am unconvinced about a second cat being the solution!

Kittens should always be adopted in pairs. They entertain each other and have each other for company so don't seek out humans so much, especially during the night.

They also are still learning and relying on you to teach them to be a cat, evicting him might even make things worse.

This is why you get two kittens - so they entertain each other and teach other about appropriate play styles and how rough to be.

Mine have always slept downstairs overnight but we've always had more than one except for the first six months of our relationship when we had a solo kitten - I'd never do it again, we always have at least two now.

our kitten is a bit older but she’s completely nuts still and sleeps in the hall. She’ll go in with my son too but she’s barred from my room for peeing on my duvet - never done this to son little monkey. She can’t stay in living room/kitchen because she winds the dog up - they get on but he likes to sleep or she’ll play with one of the older cats and he tries to protect them. They do mellow my older girls just find a place to sleep and chill
