Any vets here? Metacam for 17 year old cat

Any vets or anyone here with experience? My 17 year old cat has some signs of arthritis and has been prescribed Metacam. I know there's the possibility of it damaging the kidneys which was explained by our vet.

We have been told to try it and if she doesn't vomit, to book in for blood work etc otherwise we can opt for the monthly injections.

What's your advice for Metacam? Should I go for the monthly injections instead?

I'm so conflicted so wanted to get all the information I can before deciding what to do long term. Thank you.

@SparklesandRainbows yes, definitely have a read up.

For some cats it seems to be a miracle cure but for others it causes more issues than it solves. While mine is happy on metacam that's what we'll be sticking to, plus it's considerably cheaper, haha.

@sunsetsandboardwalks absolutely if they're happy on it and causing no issues then stick to it. x

Am I right that the biggest concern is kidney and liver damage?

@Cannedheat1999 hiya yes that's the worry I'm having as she needs medication long term for her arthritis and that's a big risk?

Just thought I'd update the thread. Shes booked in Monday for the start of the Solensia jab (and also having some matts cut out at the same time) we gave her the metacam and did see an improvement after day 2. She was hopping around and alert more, eating more aswell! But popped in the vets this morning and talked about the prospect of kidney damage from metacam so we all agreed to try the jab. I'll update soon with how she's getting on :)
