Can we get a rabbit?

We have 2 cats, aged 3.
The children are now asking for a rabbit.
My cats kill everything though, so I assume we couldn't get a rabbit.
Am I right?

Don't do it.

No. Rabbits are prey animals and would be miserable around cats. The cats wouldn't be happy either!

Firstly you need more than one rabbit as they are herd animals and it’s cruel to have a single rabbit.
I’ve two cats and two sizeable rabbits that live out in the garden. They are VERY territorial and bully the cats out of the garden. But I’m very aware that our cats are thick and haven’t realised they could dispatch a rabbit in seconds.

Ok, no rabbits then!

As pp said , rabbits are prey animals, so they would live a terrified life in flight mode . They are very sensitive and complex creatures , often mistaken as easy pets for children. You have made the right decision.

We've got guinea pigs (indoor) and cats (indoor!).
My guinea pigs give the cats what for if they come too close. We had a dog previously with guinea pigs and the guinea pig bit the dog on the nose and she never went near them again!!

No. Rabbits are incredibly difficult pets and not especially rewarding for children. They are considered the most abused pet as their needs are really complex and most owners thought they were getting a low maintenance pet that just needed some hay and pellets.
