Help with feeding

I could really use some help/advice with regards to feeding please.

I now have 2 cats - jasmine who is 13. She’s always been a bit of a grazer, eats Iams senior dry food, she was never keen on the wet stuff, just used to lick the jelly or gravy off and leave the meat so we stopped giving her that years ago. She’s fairly overweight although I’ve never understood why as she doesn’t appear to eat that much. She’s not very active though.

We adopted Ella who is 2 a couple of months ago. She has 2 pouches of whiskas wet food plus a small amount of whiskas biscuits per day, as this is what she was having at the rescue.

Now that Ella has settled in I want to try and address the food issue. She gobbles her wet food down in one go so that’s fine, but I’ve also caught her eating jasmine’s dry food, and likewise caught jasmine eating her dry food (though not as often).

I always thought dry food was supposed to be better than wet but reading some posts on here now I’m not sure if that’s right? Ella’s poo stinks though, it’s far worse than jasmine’s!

sorry, I appreciate there’s a lot going on here but really appreciate any advice as to how to navigate all this for the best all round?!

I think wet is better as it has moisture that dry doesn't. Only feeding dry can cause kidney problems in some cats. Our rescue had only been given dry food in her original home and the rescue switched to wet. She never looked back! She loved Felix wet food but is fussy when trying to switch to a "better" alternative (like Untames and Canagan).

Can you feed them in separate rooms? Wait until Jasmine has had her dinner before Ella?
